Fire damages Gold Kist peanut drying plant in Comanche

A Tuesday night fire at the Gold Kist Peanut Growers complex damaged one drying battery in a large sheet iron building at the former Durham Peanut Co. Fire Chief John T. Carpenter said the blaze started around 9 45 and burned past midnight. Power was briefly cut as crews fought the flames. Damages are described as thousands of dollars, with replacement plans for new and expanded facilities planned after the season.</s>

Local Artist Monselle O'Brien Shows on State Circuit

Local artist Monselle O'Brien of Comanche has an oil titled Family Homestead selected for the Cir cuit Exhibition B of the Texas Fine Arts Association. The work, numbered 13 and marked not for sale, carries a Circuit Merit from the Spring Jury and will tour venues including Fort Hood in October and Brownwood in November along the circuit itinerary.

Pecan Show Set For December 5th

Comanche County hosts its 4th annual Pecan Show on Saturday December 5 at the Gustine School Building led by Comanche County Pecan Association president L G Holland. A Bake Show division debuts with Judy Fleming chairing. Grand champion trophies and engraved plaques await division winners along with ribbons. Arias Family Heads to Costa Rica for Father’s Illness

Ernesto Arias visiting County Agent from Costa Rica leaves Comanche for emergency travel after learning his father is critically ill. The family boarded a Brownwood flight to Houston and plan to reach Costa Rica by Friday noon.

A Community Thanksgiving Service will be held Wednesday night November 25 at the First Baptist Church Comanche.
