Anson congressman Omar Burleson, representing Texas 17th District, visited Comanche on Wednesday afternoon. He plans to return to Washington next week to begin committee work for the new congressional session starting in January. He thanked Comanche County residents for their support and confidence.
Comanche High School basketball teams begin action next week with both the Indians and Maidens training Monday. They travel to Eastland for a Friday night game on November 20 and return to host Breckenridge Buckaroos on Monday night, November 23.
Visiting Cathy and Kyle Couch children of Garner and Mrs. Couch Azle spend a week in Comanche with their grandparents Bob Carpenter and wife.
Roy D. Adams, manager of Comanche Telephone Co-Op since 1957, was elected vice-president of the Texas Statewide Telephone Co-Op Association at its November 5-6 annual meeting at Lubbock. He previously served as association president 1960-61 and on the board in 1959-60.
Friday night November 13 is regular singing night at Sand Hill. Everyone is invited, said Mrs. Bob Scott in an official announcement.
Felton Don Brooks, electrical engineer, will move to Houston November 15 to join NASA Manned Spacecraft Center after leaving the General Services Administration Electrical Design Branch in Dallas. A CHS graduate, he earned an electrical engineering degree from the University of Houston. He is the son of Mr and Mrs D R Brooks of Comanche and is married to Vera Mae Howell Proctor. They have three children Lori Lisa and Mark Stacy.
A special Thanksgiving Service will be held Wednesday evening November 25 at 7:30 at the First Baptist Church. Rev. James McCall of First Presbyterian Church will deliver the message. Comanche pastors join in a combined service with a church choir directed by Paul Goodwin, and a Thanksgiving offering for the Comanche United Fund will be taken.
Mr and Mrs Willingham of Gustine were in Waco last Saturday to watch the Texas Baylor football game.
The Comanche Indians host Cisco Lobos at Indian Memorial Stadium in the season finale with a 7:30 kickoff and homecoming ceremonies starting about 7:10. Four homecoming queens will be crowned as the Indians aim for a 5 5 record. Cisco enters after a mixed season and a 42 0 loss to Dublin last week.
Grady Graham a 16 year old junior member and middle linebacker for the Comanche High School Indian football squad broke his right wrist in Monday afternoons scrimmage on the next to last play. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Bill Williams of 1001 E Mill Ave.
Comanche County 4 H members and adult leaders were honored November 7 at the annual Achievement Program in the District Courtroom. About 180 people attended as officials awarded 101 4 H pins and various project honors for beef, dairy, foods, clothing, forestry and more.
Twenty-two Comanche Indian Band students placed in the West Central Texas Air District Band in Eastland on November 7 as part of a 300-student field from 28 schools. First Band honors went to Jane Caraway and four others. Second Band include Richard Frazier Gail Gleaton Autie Merreltyorralte and Travis Phifer with several top placements and a final evening concert ending with Cathy Fanning's piccolo solo in Stars and Stripes Forever.
Eloise Parker announces 1964 Census of Agriculture plans in Comanche County. The program runs in three stages beginning with enumerator recruitment, then mail questionnaires to rural box holders, followed by on-site visits starting November 23. Data cover farms size, crops, livestock, equipment, and inputs.
Comanche educators paid tribute to S. H. Fletcher superintendent during American Education Week. Mrs Edna McPherson announced the honor in the Junior High Library with tributes from teachers and community figures including Miss Lee MacGrothlin and KCOM radio staff. Fletcher received a framed certificate and gave a moving acceptance speech.
