Couple Honored On Sixtieth Anniversary
De Leon November 12 Mgr and Mrs John Owen were honored by their daughters with a turkey dinner for their sixtieth wedding anniversary on October 31. Owen, 82, born in Morgan county Alabama, moved to Mississippi as a child and served four years in the Confederate army. They married October 21, 1866, in South Carolina and have seven children, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Family and friends attended, with plates set for fourteen.

Farm home burns at Proctor in November fire
The residence of John Hanson near Proctor burned Thursday night with an estimated loss of $2500. No insurance. The origin of the fire is unknown. Mrs. Hanson awakened the family as flames roared, and all escaped in night clothes, with clothing and household goods destroyed except two feather beds.

Pioneer in Pecans Shipping From Texas to Shreveport
W Jones and fellow settlers in Comanche county recall transporting pecans to Shreveport in 1858. Three oxen wagon carried 2500 pounds, two oxen 1500 pounds, one ox carried 800 pounds. Pecans sold for five dollars per bushel then, versus about nine dollars today.
