Local merchants promote weekly Goodwill Days with items priced low. Stores like Clay Build Material, Mulligan's, and Vest a's offer bed sheets, glassware, and clothing at reduced prices. Hormel foods, auto deals, and household items are featured, with specials for Friday and Saturday and events on Wednesday.
A Sunday afternoon program at a local church featured song leaders and attendees from nearby places. James John and Joy led the event with community members in attendance.
The annual Union Thanksgiving Service will be held next Wednesday at 7:30 PM in the First Baptist Church. Sponsored by the Comanche Ministerial Association, the service features a Men’s Choir directed by T. R. Atwood and a sermon by Rev. B. L. Dean of Central Christian Church. Citizens are invited to attend.
The Chief will be released one day early next week with mailing on Wednesday instead of Thursday due to National Thanksgiving Day observances in Tex as and Comanche County. Mr. and Mrs. W. Fagan celebrated their 50th anniversary on November 11 at the home of their daughter and son in law, with Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Stovall hosting at 801 E Walcott Ave Comanche.
The Sidney Eagles six man champions travel to Copperas Cove Thursday night November 17 for a bi district clash with Buckholts. Kickoff is 7:30 PM. Coach Massingale’s 9-1 team lost 8-6 last week to Pottsville. Expected starters include backs Bob French Winston Woolsey Mack Ayburn center Russell Cleveland ends Gerald Hillis and Bob Caffey.
Mrs. Orval Martin and Mrs. Dennie Mudell of Cleburne and Mrs. Bob Woods of Bronte visit their sister Mrs. Olin Willis who is ill at Blackwood Mims hospital.
Bill Curry of the Fairview community, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Curry and former Comanche FFA member, earned fourth place and a $20 prize in the State Electric Award Program. He demonstrated home and shop wiring work and is a freshman at Texas A&M College. The award is financed by Texas electric utilities, with Bill Gressett presenting.
Comanche Indians meet Brady Bulldogs at Indian Memorial Stadium Friday in the season finale. Brady seeks a share of the 7-AA title while Ballinger and Lake View also contend. Key injuries thin Comanche. Pettit hip injury Hicks broken thumb and multiple players ill or hospitalized.
Senator Lyndon B. Johnson to deliver a homecoming speech at a Whitney High School Gymnasium dinner. The $10 per plate event funds a Democratic Advisory Council gathering featuring dancing and a formal program in his honor. Johnson, recovering from a midsummer heart attack, is praised as a historic Texas political figure and U S Senate leader.
William L Burkhardt of Austin is assigned as seminarian in charge at St Matthew’s Episcopal Church. The appointment announced by Bishop John M Harte sets his duties to begin November 20 with a reception after the 9 20 a m service led by Rev Dorsey Smith. Regular Sunday services resume at 4 30 a m with Sunday School.
The Comanche Jaycees sponsored turkey shoot events on Friday and Saturday November 11 12 drawing good interest in cool windy weather. Local marksmen claimed 35 turkeys totaling 400 pounds across two days. Funds nearing $400 will fund new street markets in Comanche with plans to make the event an annual affair and possibly a one day shoot before Christmas.

The fifth annual All-District Band concert will be held at 7 30 p m in the High School Gymnasium with admission free. CHS students from Breckenridge Eastland Cisco Baird Ranger Gorman De Leon Comanche Stephenville Dublin Rising Star Cross Plains Santa Anna Bangs Goldthwaite San Saba Hamilton Coleman May Early and other towns contribute selected musicians. The program ranges from semi classical overtures to modern pop tunes and jazz.
Michael Dewayne Spruill ten and a half months old son of Mr and Mrs Robert Spruill Route 1 Gustine fell ill ten days before his death at Houston Children’s Hospital. Funeral services were at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev Frank Kennedy Marshall in charge and burial in Oakwood Cemetery. The mother is the former Gwendolyn Marie Amos. Here From Cisco Mr and Mrs C L Webb of Cisco visited sister Mrs Maude Robinson in Comanche Sunday.
T Clifton Clary once living in Comanche County was tried five times for his wife Odell Sanders murder in 1948. A Dallas jury of nine men and three women found him innocent on November 5 after deliberations that began with an initial 11-1 vote. Clary’s defense called him a devoted husband attempting to save his wife as a fire started by a match lit for a stove engulfed the home near Ballinger.
The second of five Goodwill Days will be held next Wednesday November 23 in Comanche. A $150 cash giveaway and extra merchant giveaways are planned. Past event on November 16 drew a large crowd as Cyril Greene acted as MC and Jimmy Blanton and his band entertained. Blanton will return next week. Winners from the previous event include Mrs. M E Power Pat Howard Mrs L W Stokes Mrs Dave Farrar and Mrs A C Kilgore Sidney.
A special Thanksgiving revival begins Saturday night November 19 at the Pre- Pentecostal Church in Comanche and runs for a week, announced by Pastor Rev. C. D. Wright. A cordial invitation awaits all.
