County Agent Barton Asked to Resign by Court Vote

By a 3 to 1 vote the Comanche County Commissioners Court demanded the resignation of County Agent J A Barton effective January 1. The motion followed pressure from the county Anti AAA Club led by L H Creamer. Barton noted most farmers favored his retention, and the A and M College Extension Service praised his work.

Hanson Family Visit Noted in Brownwood

Martin Hanson and son Henry were visitors in Brownwood this Sunday. Comanche High School football hosts Gustine this afternoon at 3 30 on the local gridiron with admission 10 cents for children and 25 cents for adults. Mr and Mrs Martin Hanson and children Ollie Henry and Walter Green went to Dublin Saturday.

Miss Eunice Gray Visits Brownwood and Dies

A visitor in Brownwood on Monday Miss Eunice Gray is noted. J W Dyke White of Higginbothams died Monday and was buried there, according to surviving friends.

Schools All Set for Fete Here Today

Comanche prepared for a 2 pm patriotic program on the High School grounds with students from West Ward Grammar and High School forming a parade. Lions Club funded drum corps and band, with City Council support. The day also features the Comanche Indians football team hosting Gustine in a final home game before Thanksgiving. Gustine’s strong schedule includes wins over Tolar, Desdemona, and Dublin, with the upcoming game against Hamilton. Admission is 10 and 25 cents.

Fire Hits J. O. Light Home In Comanche

Fire of undetermined origin damaged the five room residence of J. O. Light in Comanche around midnight Sunday. Light awoke to smoke and escaped in night clothes. wife and children were away in Stephenville. Firemen acted quickly and saved parts of the structure and contents, with partial insurance coverage.

Comanche Town Prepares Major Street Surfacing Projects

Work to hard surface sidewalks and streets in Comanche begins Tuesday under federal orders. Project No. 2 allocates 18,874 dollars with 122 workers and ten trucks for College Avenue and adjacent streets, while two more paving projects worth 20,230 and 18,283 dollars await final Washington approval. City officials travel to Dallas to buy machinery.

Fire damages Wade Everidge building and Huff Jewelry Store

Fire of undetermined origin gutted the Wade Everidge building housing J. H. Huff Jewelry on the square and damaged the Southwest Gas Office. Huff estimated losses at 2750 in jewelry with 8500 insurance on stock and fixtures. Firemen saved the interior. Ed Sanders alerted authorities at about 6:30 p.m. on Armistice Day when many were on the square. Government checks totaling 79000 will be distributed next week to Comanche County peanut and cotton farmers.

Rising Star man jailed two years for saddle burglary

R. R. Roy Smith of Rising Star received a two year term in the penitentiary after a District Court jury found him guilty of burglarizing a saddle at Comyn. Len Smith awaits trial on the same charge as his brother. Co. B. Simms of Gorman was acquitted of driving while intoxicated. last week’s case ended in a hung jury. Judge Cross noted no-jury civil work would resume next week, and the Grand Jury would reconvene to complete its duties.

Lamkin hosts 3rd annual boys and girls basketball tourney

Lamkin will stage the third annual boys and girls basketball tournament this Saturday November 23. Perry Moring says any Texas high school team can enter. last year drew over a thousand spectators and 20 teams. Comyn girls and Pottsville boys won last year with trophies awarded to winners.
