New War Law Affects Exemptions and Dependents

A new act effective November 1 reorganizes dependents and allotments for soldiers. It details wife and child allowances, half pay designated to dependents, and treasury contributions. It lists instructions from General Crowder and notes that cases on dependency and discharge will be reconsidered under Compiled Rulings No. 12. Baptist Pastor Curlee Resigns to Lead Pittsburg Church

Geo A Curlee tendered his resignation after three years in Comanche to accept a pastorate in Pittsburg Texas He will leave in a few days and preach his farewell sermon Sunday The Curlees are described as faithful consecrated Christians whose loss will be felt by the community and church peers.

Ed Bagley Dies After Illness

Ed Bagley, recently ill with typhoid fever, died Sunday night and was buried Monday at Pendergrass cemetery in Sid ney by the W. O. W. lodge of which he was a member. Rev Curlee led the services. The community notes the loss of a promising young man with much life ahead.

Wilson Straley Licensed to Preach

Wilson Straley editor of the Hico News-Review and former foreman of The Comanche Chief was granted license to preach by the Methodist Conference at Dublin last Tuesday. He is well known in the area and is expected to be an able worker in the cause he has taken up.

New Postal Rates Take Effect This Week

New postal rates go into effect at midnight Thursday. First class letters 3 cents per ounce, drop letters 2 cents, post cards 2 cents. Parcel post unchanged. Parcels to American soldiers in France require inspection and 12 cents per pound, wooden boxes for weights over 7 pounds. Christmas mail must be mailed before November 15.

The Young Men's Minstrel, directed by Mrs. Elma Brown, drew large crowds Tuesday night at the Majestic for the tobacco fund. The boys delivered a flawless, highly entertaining performance from start to finish and a neat sum was raised for the fund.

Methodist Musings Sunday Rally Attracts Congregation

The Sunday plechod rally at our church drew a larger attendance with about twenty five more people though several regulars were away. Sunday school opens at 9 45 and preaching at 11 by the pastor followed by the Lord's Supper. Evening service at 7 30 features special music and a warm welcome. Rev 8S J Vaughan will lead Wednesday’s service and the fourth quarterly conference will be held Nov 7 with notice to the brothers.
