Highway 10 plans approved by state engineers in Comanche

Construction Engineer Welborn and District Engineer Woodward of the State Highway Department inspected the Comanche to Brown County line section, approved O. M. Simpson's plans and specifications, and announced bids for bridges and culverts could be let in June after right of way is secured. Simpson praised. engineers noted his past record of unaltered plans.

Anthony Son Earns Assistantship at University of Texas

Eugene Anthony has been offered an assistants place in the Department of Bacteriology at the University of Texas. He did two years Pre Medic work at Baylor University and will continue related study this year at Texas. He plans to pursue special work in teaching and to receive his degree in 1929.

Charged in liquor case after arrest of three men

Following the arrest of three on Thursday and Friday, Charlie Sanford was arrested by local officers on a liquor charge. The trio alleged they purchased beer from Sanford. Sanford posted $500 bond and was bound over to await grand jury action.

Comanche County lacked representation at the State Democratic Convention held at Beaumont on Thursday as each delegation failed to attend. Sixteen delegates were chosen to cast the county’s four votes.

Fire burns four in Comanche storm house gas leak tragedy

Miss Myrtle Martin, Mrs. Martin, Mr. Will Martin and four year old William Carroll were badly burned when a gas line leak in a nearby main ignited in a storm house where they sheltered from a candle. The child was not seriously hurt. the adults suffered deep burns to the face neck chest and arms. Neighbors aided as high pressure gas escaped from a crack in the cellar wall and rainfall likely intensified the blaze. all four are expected to recover though permanent injuries are possible.

Band Concert Opens Season With De Leon and Comanche

Harmon Howard announces the first evening concert of the season on Friday June 1 at 8 30 on the Court House Lawn. The combined bands of De Leon and Comanche headline a program expected to draw large crowds with possible kiddie play programs and summer front concerts in Comanche and De Leon.

Lamkin Community Cattle Club Holds Stock Show Judges and Winners Named

The Lamkin Community held a stock show with club boys and 30+ men judging cattle supervised by County Agent J A Barton. Winners in milky cow were A J Sparks J L Neal and Charlie Campbell. Baby Beef winners were Charlie Campbell Ewart Carmichael Lannon White and Mack Wall. Calves will be shown at the Comanche County Farmers Fair and Fort Worth Fat Stock Show. Carmichael's record shows a net profit of 32.24 from baby beef. Average county club profit per calf cited as 31.50 with detailed costs and weights for multiple participants.

Three Charged With Burglary Near Hasse

S A Barker Miss Marine Barker and Floyd Smith of near Hasse were arrested Saturday night on a burglary charge and jailed with bonds set at 500 dollars each. Smith posted bond by noon Wednesday. Hawkins, the Star Service Station No 2 manager, reported a gas fill and intruders being confronted before police arrived.

The Jelly Plant of Brady Martin in Comanche will begin operation Monday May 8 with heating and cleaning machinery installed and a juice press from Bangs plant. Judge Luker encourages berry growers to supply the market to maintain high quality berries, as forecasts indicate a large crop possibly equal to or greater than last year.

Plans for Comanche Delegation to West Texas Meet

Citizens will gather this afternoon in the District Court Room to discuss a large Heart of Texas Chamber of Commerce demonstration. H. Burks Brownwood and Wright Armstrong will lead twelve bands and delegations from seventeen counties in a major publicity event planned for Ft Worth. Si. Burks will attend to assist in preparations for the delegation.
