Comanche Jaycees Win Top Honors at State Convention
Comanche Jaycees earned the Henry Giessenbier Memorial Award as outstanding club in their population division at the State Jaycee Convention in Amarillo May 14 16. Bo Elrod and Gayle Graham received individual awards while Harold Adcock and Elrod won Tall Texan honors for recruiting new members. The club captured five first place recognitions in community involvement chapter management publication ways and means and youth assistance plus other high placements. Attendees included Dr Richard I Lane president Bill Kendrick state VP and local boosters thanked for support.

Gordon Wood Brownwood High School football coach will speak at Comanche High School All Sports Banquet honoring nearly 100 athletes. The event starts at 7 30 p m in the Junior High Cafetorium and recognizes Wood for coaching success including 261 victories and seven state championships.

City Pool Opens May 27 in Comanche at Lake Banes
The City of Comanche will open its swimming pool at Lake Banes on Thursday May 27. Max Parker a UT student will manage the pool and James Fanning CHS graduate will serve as lifeguard. Hours are 2 to 9 pm daily, 2 to 6 pm Sundays, closed Wednesdays. Admission remains 2 cents for children and 40 cents for adults.

VEW to Furnish Flags for Veterans Graves
Comanche VFW Post 8460 will provide flags for Memorial Day grave decorations. Post commander Sam Livingston urges cemetery managers to contact for flag counts. Flags usable 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday at Higginbotham’s General Offices. Four post members can assist. Flags are free while supply lasts if returned after Memorial Day. a 12 cent token may be charged if kept. Oakwood Cemetery flags not placed on individual graves. flags will be flown at appropriate locations. Individual graves in Oakwood may still receive a flag.

The Comanche Jaycees host the Peanut Princess contest July 10 at Comanche High School Auditorium. The winner advances to the state contest August 14 in Eastland. Water Rates Reduced In Comanche Council Action
The Comanche City Council and Mayor Clarence Schwartz cut summer water rates. After the first 5,000 gallons, charges drop to 30 cents per 1,000 gallons from the previous 50 cents. Public Works Director John Beaty says the reduced rates remain in effect until further notice.
