A recent price advance boosts farmer optimism as cotton reaches 14 to 15 cents a pound and oats near 40 cents, with other grains rising too. Rain in the coming days could improve the grain crop, while drought could cause shortages, but merchants see positive money flow despite a short crop.
The 1927 berry crop is likely the largest in county history due to increased acreage. Yields are excellent with ideal picking weather, and demand from out of town traders and local buyers is strong as trucks move to selling grounds. Many berries are sold outright or under contracts, boosting county income after cotton prices fell earlier.
Mr. E. T. Hughes led a large Gustine High School group to the Tarleton Vocational Agriculture contest held May 14. The program praised Hughes work in community fairs and upbuilding, noting stronger interest and bigger teams this year. College officials hope to award cups next year instead of banners.
Wanted to trade a bag of money for chickens cogs and cream. John H Harris Window Glass advertised at Higginbotham s Lumber Yard offering all sizes.

The Comanche Public Schools 1927 closing week runs Sunday to Tuesday with Baccalaureate on May 22 at 11 a.m. and commence on May 24 at 8:30 p.m. Oscar Callaway will give the commencement address. The senior play A Trial of Hearts coached by Miss Anne Palmer and Mrs. Cochran debuts, detailing college life and romance, and features senior students in principal roles.
The senior play directed by Miss Lane Palmear and Mrs Z M Cochran will be given Monday evening. The production titled The Story of the Play Dudley Van Antwerp promises an aristocratic flavor.
A cast of college social figures appears including Dudley Van Antwerp and Grady Williams with ties to Greek life. Sallys, courtesies, and courtship unfold amid Delta Chi and Kappa Psi circles with several named friends and partners.
The Mackey Motor Company will demonstrate the Fordson Gleaner on the Rauhut farm northeast of town showing the first county use of a combine. Amerada Petroleum closes a deal to drill seven test wells on 2100 acres east and north of Sipe Springs with wells to 500 feet deep testing a 1700 foot sand. Locations and start dates expected this week as plans include two more deep wells between Sipe Springs and Gorman on lands of M. Poynor Haile estate and others.
J. M. Boykin completed a sizable sheep purchase last week, buying eight hundred ewes aged three and four years from Clarence Albin to graze on his property south of Comanche. The deal signals the growing prosperity of the sheep industry and its potential to lead county livestock.
The Pythian Mandolin Club from Weatherford will give a free outdoor concert in Comanche on June 7 as part of a town tour. S. P. Smith, keeper of records and seals of the K of P lodge, notes the group asks the hosting lodge to assist with the entertainment.
A Gustine Texas baccalaureate program lists events on Sunday May 22 1927 including march by seniors chorus and readings. Rev J M Wynne delivers the sermon at the Methodist Church Comanche Texas with the benediction by Rev O A Morton while the congregation participates in hymns and readings by Maggie Johnston Blake West and others.
Brady Martin, a Bangs, Texas packer with a home made taste in jams and jellies, announces expansion to use a good portion of Comanche county berry crop. R A Luker, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, notes Martin’s progress and contact with Sidney and Gap consolidation and local truckmen to develop a forest market for berries.
