A plan for a state highway linking Temple through Gatesville Comanche Hamilton Coryell Bell and East counties to Rising Star was discussed at Gatesville on April 29. County officials including R Aucker Barry Hicks Morris and Anthony formed a committee with Taylor of Temple as president and Helmsley as county VP. Helmsley and Adams were appointed to represent the county at the State Highway Commission meeting in Austin on May 10.

John E. Smith 46 of Rising Star died at his home on Saturday May 1 after pneumonia following an illness. He was a prominent citizen and member of the First Baptist church. He leaves a wife and four brothers including T S Smith of Altus and Walter Smith, plus a sister Mollie Lam, all of Rising Star, with many relatives at his bedside. Funeral attendees included Miss Texie Couch and Mrs Howard Kilpatrick among Comanche friends.

Death of J. T. Washington Comanche County Tax Assessor
J. T. Washington a longtime Comanche County resident and former tax assessor died at his Proctor home May 1. Born 1847 in Tennessee he moved to the area in 1873 and served as school trustee and Justice of the Peace. He was active in the Baptist church for 35 years and is survived by his wife Josephine Burroughs, four daughters and two sons.
