Banker Leads Local Soil Conservation Efforts

W C Chilton, president of a local bank, volunteers for the Upper Leon Soil Conservation District. He chaired the bankers' committee, advised farmers, and ran a 1000 acre ranch with mesquite control, terraces, ponds, waterways, and grazing management. He started a conservation program in 1948 and irrigation efforts in 1953, highlighting irrigation as supplemental and weather dependent.

Manche County districts shine with top six places in Rural Progress Contest. Springs wins first, followed by Springs and Amity in top three. Harmony, Enterprise, and Hazeldell place in there too as judges hail strong community effort across eight entrants.

Eight Teams Ready For Baseball Here

Six Little League teams and two pony league squads are in practice as Comanche preps for a May 28 opener. A third pony league team may join. ages 9 to 12 for Little League and 13 to 14 for pony. Uniforms issued to all eight teams. Managers listed for each squad and potential new entry to be led by Mr. McCord.

An open house and reception will follow at the Homemaking Cottage. Share-The-Fun Winners Listed

The festival showcased 75 4-H clubs with Jerry and Susie Cook of the Sidney club chosen to represent Comanche County at the District Contest. Rural Neighborhood winners led the district with Soda Springs first, Stag Creek second, Amity third, while May 20 will reveal pasture program results. A quarter horse note and metal recycling ad conclude the item.

Dr Roy Mims Joins Blackwood Hospital Staff

Dr Roy Mims of La Grange Georgia will join Blackwood Clinic Hospital in Comanche on or about June 1 announced by Drs E E and W D Blackwood. He has twenty years of medical practice and will aid the hospital and community. Dr Mims and wife with two children will be welcomed back by friends during his service with Blackwood Clinic Hospital in 1952.
