Duke Theatre Opens in Gustine With New Home
Mr and Mrs Ed Duke announce the opening of The Duke theatre in Gustine on Saturday May 3 in the former Palace site destroyed by fire January 13. E W Chaney of Comanche built the new house with 200 new seats and upgraded sound equipment. The inaugural attraction is Rogers in South of Caliente with introductory tickets at 25 and 35 cents. Man Who Died In Chair Buried At Sipe Springs
William T. Jones died in the electric chair for the killing of his 12 year old daughter. He was buried at Sipe Springs Cemetery after funeral services in Huntsville Church of Christ. He left a statement of remorse and said his firing from the railroad drove him to commit the crime. His wife also died from hammer blows in Hamlin, with testimony noting the attacks and arson.

POWs of World War II Awarded New Benefits
Public Law 303 approved April 9 1952 amends the War Claims Act to pay POWs $1.50 a day for days of uncompensated forced labor or inhumane treatment. About 132000 American service members were taken prisoner. earlier awards were $1.00 daily for lack of food and rations. The deadline for new claims is April 9 1953. Payments come from the War Claims Fund, funded by liquidated assets of enemy aliens.
