A special Friday press sale at Botham's highlights 39 new summer cottons and other bargains. Local ads list prices on coffee, dress fabrics, appliances, Coca Cola, and household items. Tax notices and county vehicle tags prompt shoppers to act before April 1.
The Comanche area launches a Free Polio Vaccine drive for 760 school children with sponsorship from the local Future Farmers of America chapter the Chamber of Commerce the Jaycees and area PTAs. The first dose was given March 13 to Comanche and Sidney students. Gustine and Proctor follow March 14 with local doctors nurses and parents providing consent and support.
John M. Hathcock, local Westinghouse dealer, announces a special appliance sale now under way continuing through March 31. Prices have been slashed on all Westinghouse white goods appliances as well as on television sets, inviting shoppers to check the full page ad in this issue.
Over 200 farmers registered for a weekend irrigation clinic in Comanche and Erath counties. Speakers included Roy Garrett, John Shankin, William O. Trogdon, and R. V. Thurmond. The program covered irrigation basics, soil fertility, and methods to reproduce successful results.
The Comanche Volunteer Fire Department will host the North Central Texas Firemen's Association on Tuesday night April 2. Chief LeRoy Grayson notes twelve or more pumper race teams from area departments are expected, with a public supper at the Evridge Building and free races on the north side of the square. Members from Comanche, De Leon, Dublin, Eastland, Ranger, Cisco, Breckenridge, Aledo, Gorman, Weatherford, Palo Pinto, Mineral Wells and invited departments will attend.
Dr. C. R. Slider of Comanche becomes managing editor of the Presbyterian Action published by the Board of Christian Education of the First Presbyterian Church in Richmond Virginia. He will edit adult materials including the Adult Quarterly and Earnest Worker and supervise curricula related church school content. Dr. Slider, 1935 Comanche High School graduate, earned BD from Union Theological Seminary 1942 and ThD from Miliff School of Theology Denver. He previously pastorates at Mossy Creek Brownsville and Marks Mississippi.
The Methodist Women’s Society of Christian Service hosts a huge rummage sale on Friday and Saturday March 22 23 in the McDonald Building on the East side of the square. Donations and patronage are welcome.
The Comanche Garden Club hosts the 18th annual Flower Show and Tea on Saturday March 30 from 2 to 9 30. Highlights include Home and Abroad themes such as American Influence Atmosphere of India and Japanese Adaptations with various hostesses and committee chairs named. The event features a horticulture display at Camp Fire Rock House with multiple committees and a Junior Garden Club presentation. Admission is 35 and 15 cents. the public is invited.
Central Texas towns met in Dublin for a banquet to promote the Proctor Reservoir on the Leon River in Comanche County. Attendees included Comanche mayoral candidate John Halil and Lions Club member Castle B.llis. Byron Skelton of Temple spoke on flood control and water conservation.
The 1957 Comanche High School senior class selects Everybody's Crazy for its play with at least three performances. Night shows are on April 16 and 18, with daytime matinees for Junior High and J B Layne Elementary students the week prior. The comedy features three college boys, a phony doctor, a ghost, and a colorful supporting cast.
Judge James P. Hart former Texas Supreme Court chief justice and UT ex chancellor will tour Comanche Friday to back his United States Senate bid for the unexpired Price Daniel term. Hart emphasizes study of tough issues and farm policy as he pursues the 22 candidate field with April 2 election.
Three candidates filed for the two seats in the April 6 school trustee election in Comanche Independent School District. The candidates are Ide Lane Darrell E Smith and John S Braz ie. Current board terms held by Ide Lane president and Beal McDaniel expire.
David Beene of Baylor University spent the weekend at home with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Tom Beene.
Mrs. Stasha Willis of Wichita Kansas was named top winner in the National Craft 16 ton Contest and received a 46400 cash prize plus a 1600 bonus on the Tennessee Ernie Ford show. She will gain 6000 in groceries and is noted as daughter of Mrs. Harvey J. Smith. Willis was born in Comanche on May 18 1931.
Comanche County 4-H Club invites all to a Share the Fun Festival on Saturday March 30 at 7 p.m. in the Comanche High School Auditorium. Admission is 35 cents for adults and 15 cents for students with proceeds benefiting 4-H youth activities.
The Comanche County Swine Breeders Association schedules a two part tour starting Thursday with a 9 am departure from De Leon City Hall. Morning stops include R V Singleton Yorkshire breeder Leland Nabors Duroc breeder Jack Straub feeding parlor and lunch at W W Sadberry farm. Afternoon stops cover W W Sadberry Duroc Clyde Wall Duroc and J J Mathis Hampshire with judging by E M Regenbrecht Extension Service swine specialist.
