W J Miller of Fort Worth a Carnation Milk traveling representative in Comanche last Friday urged considering a Carnation milk plant at Comanche He said Texas leads in evaporated and condensed milk consumption with half a million cases sold last year and that Carnation now dominates world condensing He cited feed quality market distance from rivals and labor stability as key factors in locating a new Texas plant

Re-Election of City Superintendent W G Barrett

W G Barrett was re elected as City Schools Superintendent at the regular board meeting last Thursday. Barrett came to Comanche as high school principal under the late B W Speed and, after Speed's death, served the remainder of that term and last year. Barrett, a Baylor University graduate, is regarded as a leading area educator and has improved the district’s financial condition.

City Sells Gas Pipe for Municipal Plant Plan

Work to load the gas pipe bought by the City for a proposed municipal gas system is complete. The pipe was shipped to Almena and sold to West Texas Utilities Company. A city statement last week claimed Comanche would not incur a loss and that the municipal gas plan might aid local gas supply without harming citizens.

Carnation Company weighs Texas plant site with 5000 cows

Mr. Miller argues labor and milk quality impact plant feasibility. He estimates a condensing plant would need about 5000 cows within 10 to 15 miles to ensure supply and good milk quality. He notes Carnation could relocate here if a Texas community shows strong interest.

Comanche Boy Ties State Record in Pole Vault

Collin Dingwall of Comanche tied the state record by vaulting eleven feet to win first place at the S M U T C U track meet in Fort Worth last Saturday. He vaulted for Comanche while in high school and represented the district and state meets.

Penny Burglars Busy Last Week in Comanche

Burglars active last week in Comanche robbed three places, taking small sums in pennies and a few items. Entry was gained by removing a window pane and careful not to break the glass. Losses included pennies at the Comanche Mill and minor items at the Laundry and Emerts Filling Station. No suspects identified, likely juvenile culprits.

Former Stated Clerk R W Benge Dies at 73

The Rev. R. W. Benge 73 resigned as stated clerk of Dallas Presbytery in September due to ill health and died Sunday at his sister's home in McAlester Oklahoma. Funeral at First Presbyterian Athens followed by burial in Athens. Benge previously led Cumberland Presbyterian church at Comanche and preached forcefully.

Auto Stolen Last August Found Stripped Near Brownwood

Officers found a Ford Coupe stripped of nearly all parts, including a door and upholstery, in a hidden pasture two miles east of Democrat. Stolen Aug 27 from J. E. Gary in Brownwood, the car had been driven about twenty miles before being stripped with no clues or theories available.

Daughter of Bachman Family Buried After Operation

Bennie Sue Bachman, 22 months old of Downing, died Sunday after throat surgery. She was buried Sunday at 4 PM in Downing Cemetery with Rev. B. F. Hearn officiating. The death followed catarrahal condition of the throat.

Citizens and communities in Comanche plan a county Interscholastic League Meet with prizes including 200 gallons of gasoline for attendance and 100 gallons for top registrants. Chicken Thieves Raid Two Farms Steal Hens

The thieves struck J. M. Guthrie and C. L. Beard on Saturday night taking a dozen hens from Guthrie and twenty four hens from Beard. A suspicious car with a chicken coop was seen near midnight fueling the theory the thieves were transporting the birds to a distant market.

Luther Dixon Hurt in Auto Collision near Brownwood

Luther Dixon was badly bruised and cut but not fatally hurt in a crash five miles west of Brownwood on Tuesday afternoon. He was returning from Brownwood in a Ford when he collided with the Fort Worth and Brownwood Bus at a filing station corner. a passenger with him escaped injury. Dixon was pinned in wreckage but later traveled to Comanche.
