Opera House Fire Marks End of Bromage Row’s Peak

A historic Co manche Opera House fire in 1912 destroyed the building with losses totaling about 50 000 as flames and smoke overwhelmed the wooden second story. Rescue attempts included a fire alarm triggered by schoolboy G Preston Tate and fire police stationed to control crowds. The incident followed a prior era of horse drawn apparatus and a new bandmaster in 1912, with the Armistice Day site later showing only a stone wall remaining.
