Mr and Mrs King Jones promote their J Williams Ranch showing blue gray chinchillas bred from Comanchean lines via Dr Homer Eenlee of Fort Worth. Jones plans a December display at Hotel Texas Fort Worth with National Chinchilla Breeders Association, inviting interests after learning about these fur bearing animals.
At a Comanche Independent School District meeting the Board of Trustees re elected all principals to two year contracts marking a policy shift. The principals are W. L. Morris High School Robbie Burdette Grammar School and Dorus Brown Ward School with Morris in the district since 1946.
Comanche County Boy Scouts with 30 members and leaders Herbert Goodson, Alecia Biggs, and John Earl Williams have refurbished their headquarters using siding donated from the Comanche County Vocational School. The group held its first meeting in the new building Friday night and plans weekly Friday meetings. Scouts express thanks to Paul Whitton and the school's trustees for the siding gift.
Dallas pastor Rev. Barnett Rippetoe will be guest preacher at Rock Bluff Baptist Church near De Leon on Sunday. The program begins at 10 with a 30 minute song service, Sunday school 10:30 to 11:15, and a preaching service 11:15 to 12. A quartet from his Dallas church accompanies him.
The March Term 1952 grand jury reports two days of session with 24 witnesses examined and 4 felony indictments returned, each signed by nine jurors. They urge De Leon city authorities to probe Domino Hall for ordinance violations and note county public buildings are in excellent condition. The panel thanks Judge Cross, the County and District Attorneys, and bailiffs, and requests dismissal until called again. Foreman John D. Waring and Secretary H. N. Goodson sign.
Six aspirants filed for the three City Alderman posts in the April 1 election as filing closed March 1. Incumbents J. H. London W. C. House and A. P. Burks seek re election, with W. Howard J. B. Ruth and E. E. Straley also running for the seven alderman seats.
The Pentecostal Church at 507 S. Houston St. has concluded a successful revival. Brother H. W. Davis was elected pastor.
Comanche High School fields a large track squad with about 60 boys and 30 Grammar School youngsters practicing at the ball park. Four coaches direct senior, field, junior, and grade divisions as first trials set for Friday afternoon.
Earl Hodges 54, a Beattie farmer, died at Coleman hospital at 3:30 am Thursday from heart trouble. His wife was ill in Brownwood hospital after recent surgery. Hodges had been in Brownwood recently for treatment and was visiting Coleman relatives when he suffered the fatal attack. Funeral arrangements were not yet set at 10 am Thursday. the body was at Comanche Funeral Home.
Comanche High School girls basketball, defending Class AA champs, face Class A district champions Granbury in the opening regional round at Tarleton State College gym in Stephenville. Whitesboro and Henrietta open at 6:30 with Nocona vs Lancaster at 7:45. semifinals follow Saturday morning with the title tilt late Saturday night. Whitesboro carries a 33 2 season record into the tourney. Lakeview 19 4. Granbury 22 5. Nocona 18 4. Comanche 25 7. Comanche has won 20 of its last 21 after a rough spell earlier season.
Hiram Smith Jr of De Leon oversees Comanche County participation in the 1952 Red Cross Drive. County quota is $3,500 of an $85 million nationwide campaign, with leaders Reginald Waggoner and John D. Waring praising local support and urging swift drives amid Korea War demands. Nancy Carter earns Good Citizenship Award at Comanche High School.
District Court schedules a two day grand jury session with four indictments. Petit jurors report Monday including numerous residents from Comanche Dublin De Leon Gorman Gustine and German areas listed by District Clerk Kirkland.
Mr and Mrs Dale Biggs announce the birth of a daughter Karen Ann born Saturday March 1 in a Brownwood hospital. The baby weighed 7 pounds and both mother and child are at home with the grandparents Mr and Mrs W L Caldwell 1012 Avenue K Brownwood.
Mrs. Phil Bertram 85 longtime Gustine mayor died Monday at her hospital home after a long illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev. W Briscoe Gray of Brownwood in charge. Burial was at Cameron. Bertram known as The Mother of Highway 36 promoted the Abilene to Freeport project with speeches to the State Highway Commission. She served Gustine as mayor ten years retiring in 1946. She left a legacy with the Smith Memorial Hospital she built at a cost of 33000 dollars and leaves surviving relatives and a son LeRoy Bertram who died years ago.
The Comanche Indians will host the Cisco Loboes in a dual track meet at the local ball park starting at 2 o'clock. Both teams are favorites to win the 10-AA track honors and Melvin Borchert oversees a full slate of events for seniors juniors and grade school.
Mr and Mrs Frank Vineyard and Mr and Mrs Lamar Howell visited their sons Pepper Vineyard and Vic Howell who are attending Texas A&M last Sunday.
A suit filed in district court by G. B. Claitor and Naomi Claitor of Dublin seeks 67200 damages for injuries to their 7 year old son Ralph Bennett from a broken merry go round swing on September 24, 1950. Plaintiffs name former Mayor W. H. Howard City Secretary E L Curb and city council members as defendants. Curb says he learned of the accident recently and asked attorneys to present it before the council but this was not done.
A garage and attached storage building at the Rob Stewart home in Sidney were destroyed by a Monday afternoon fire. Stewart’s 1951 Dodge pickup, parked inside, was completely destroyed. Comanche Volunteer Fire Department responded, with minor damage reported to the residence.
