Gustine and Comanche County 1944 community events
Gustine School opens August 21 with Deputy State Superintendent Holbrook and County Superintendent Howard as speakers. Major Kenneth Ory, formerly a Comanche physician, promoted to major and stationed in Australia via New Guinea service, is reported. Comanche County Old Settlers meet at Lake Eanes Park, with H. L. Stewart to speak on early schools, and a district singing event led by Charlie Nance. A letter from Fred H. Oberthier praises Blazing The Way, notes the Phantom Hill road, the Dove Creek battle, and Hog Creek brushes with Indians, urging preservation and a new edition.
