Fourteen Comanche county men sent to Camp Travis
On the 2:30 train last Saturday a group of fourteen Comanche county men departed for Camp Travis to join the army cannon company quota. Six registrants could not be supplied due to medical unfitness and will be sent later. Gerald Lasiter led the contingent as captain, with T. A. Thompson, Van P. Morrison, Walter L. Underwood, R. P. Jackson, E. B. Allsup, I. E. Pittman, J. B. Green, J. F. Kennedy, J. H. Nelson, C. F. Cloud, G. W. Munn, E. Morton, and F. W. Clark among the increment.

City Schools Hold Thrift Stamp Parade
East and West Ward and Grammar schools joined a Thrift Stamp Parade from the west side building to the square ending on the courthouse lawn. Ernest Burks dressed as George Washington led with J. C. Son of Higginbotham Killed in Fort Worth Airplane Crash
Hollie Higginbotham, son of R W Higginbotham head of Higginbotham Bros. & Co., was killed last Saturday in a Fort Worth airplane accident. He served in aviation and had taken a furlough to fly with a former Yale football teammate when the crash occurred.

Death of Comanche Resident Sam Lewis
Sam Lewis of Comanche died Sunday at his home from asthma complications and was buried Monday at Harmony cemetery. Born December 5, 1845 in Alabama, he married Nancy Arther, who died last year. Survived by three brothers, one sister, and many children. He moved from Alabama to Texas in 1885 and 1889, served in the Confederate Army, and lived a long, influential life in Comanche County with a reputation for firm principles and community contribution.
