The county seeks a 40000 quota as Roland Miller Comanche County War Finance airman explains the June Treasury drive aims to inform the public on savings bonds to support a strong future. County sales to date total 162.50 with state totals for January through April 1946 listed as 23831.25, 11775, 187.50, and 12187.50.

Notice of Price Change in The Comanche Chief

The Comanche Chief will raise subscription rates on July 1, 1946 due to higher newsprint and publishing costs. Inside Comanche County price becomes 1.50 per year. outside county 2 per year. Minimums are 1 for eight months inside, 1 for six months outside. New and renewal subscriptions at old prices allowed until July 1. The paper notes it may be among the last weekly papers in the state with a 1 per year rate.

Comanche Rodeo Promises Top Stock August Show

The Comanche Rodeo August 15 16 and 17 will feature premier stock from the Lightning C Ranch and a professional lineup. Roping Association President M E Gore says at least 100 members are needed and $2000 prize money to attract leading riders and ropers from the San Saba area.

Mr and Mrs J C Wilkerson and son Bill and Mr and Mrs Robert Barton attended the Texas Press Association meeting in Corpus Christi. Wilkerson, editor of The Chief, spoke on Classified Advertising during the Friday session. After the convention they traveled to Mexico City and nearby areas for a short tour.

Hall Bros. To Reopen Store Here Saturday

Hall Bros. will reopen their grocery and feed store Saturday morning in a modern new building on the Brownwood Highway. The firm, established four years ago, expanded to 4200 feet of store space to enlarge groceries meats and feeds while offering free coffee and doughnuts all day. John Hall returns from Comanche to help manage. Fred Hall and John Hall own homes nearby.

Horace A Hitt Named New Rural Route 1 Carrier

Horace A Hitt 43 will become rural mail carrier on Comanche Route 1 replacing the prior carrier. The Houston postal clerk transfers from the Houston office and will start July 1 serving 63 miles and about 500 families. He is a World War II veteran and son of Allan Hitt of Gustine.

Youth Revival Leaders Named for July Events

Dr. Sheldon G. Posey of San Antonio will lead July 14 to 19 services at First Baptist Church in Comanche as part of a Baptist Youth Revival. Free Barbecue For Ex Servicemen On July Fourth At Lake Eanes

The Rector Cunningham Post of the American Legion Comanche invites ex servicemen and their families from Comanche County to a July 4 barbecue at Lake Eanes Park at 5 pm. World War I II and Spanish American War veterans are welcome and non members may attend. Lions Club will supply barbecue coffee bread and beans. ladies bring desserts and salads. A Veterans Administration representative will speak offering guidance especially to World War II veterans.

Stores Plan July 4 Closings in Comanche Observance

Comanche merchants largely close for Independence Day with most stores shutting. Mr. Waring notes the practice has been consistent, and few petitioned merchants formalized an agreement. Some firms, including druggists, may keep Sunday hours.

Chief To Be Out Day Late Next Week

The Comanche Chief will publish next week's paper one day later due to Independence Day. It will be mailed Friday afternoon instead of Thursday afternoon. The paper asks for public cooperation with the change.

Horse Races At Hasse Sunday In Comanche County

First postwar horse racing in Comanche County is planned Sunday afternoon June 30 at 2 o clock at the Hasse track seven miles east of Comanche on the Fort Worth Highway. Promoters Bill Gordon of Brownwood and J A Bostick of Fort Worth say eight races will be run each Sunday with Waggoner horses expected to draw large crowds. Admission is 50 cents for adults and children enter free.
