The Chief will be published a day early next week due to Independence Day. The papers will be on Wednesday July 2 with Rural Routes and City Delivery receiving copies on Thursday since no mail is delivered Friday. News contributors and advertisers should submit copy early.
Comanche County plans to choose a Texas Peanut Queen at the PAR Country Club on July 19. The event is co sponsored by Southwestern Shellers Association Southwestern Peanut Growers Association and Eastland Jaycees with a $500 scholarship for the winner who advances to the state contest in Eastland on Sept 12 13 and 20. Entries close July 12 and sponsors may be groups clubs or businesses.
Invite to Lamkin Homecoming at the Community Tabernacle on July 4. Lunch will be catered.
Comanche County families plan summer auto trips with costs rising from two years ago. Averages show about 41 dollars daily for a couple on 300 miles per day, including meals and lodging but excluding admissions. Vehicle ownership costs rise to 15.5 cents per mile on 10 000 miles yearly, with fixed and variable costs totaling 1 550 dollars per car. Local gas stations report receipts of 3 069 000 dollars, up from 2 910 000 the previous year.
Comanche ISDschool board hired three teachers James McDougal Gustine Vocational Agriculture to replace T J Davidson who resigned He is Tarleton State College graduate with Lone Star Farmer Degree Mrs Martha Ronnie Stephens now full-time Homemaking teacher previously elementary teacher and Home Demonstration Agent in Mills County Mrs Loran Richey a summer Howard Payne College graduate major Elementary Education hired as an elementary teacher The district schools suffered heavy hail damage with 25 window glasses 700 in high school 146 window shades 6 skylights and roof damage subject to further checks
The Texas Water Rights Commission with Lynn Nabers and local agents will hold meetings July 7 and 8 to discuss the Water Rights Ad judication Act of 1967. Comanche session July 8 at 9 30 am in the TP L Hospitality Room includes Timothy Brown and Stanley Lemmons detailing legal aspects and Section 4 Recordation filing before September 1 1969.
The Adult Chorale of the First Baptist Church of Lawton Oklahoma directed by Kenneth Myers and with accompanist Donald Hancock will perform a program of secular and sacred music at 7 30 p m on Friday June 27 in the church auditorium. Attendance is free and open to the public.
The First United Methodist Church youth in Comanche plan Youth Activities Week from June 29 to July 3. Each night features a different activity and a guest talk by George Brazell, a Cisco Junior College psychology sociology professor. Hearers include Junior High to college-age youths with nightly worship services.
The W.O.W. Lodge will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday July 1 at 6 30 p m in the cafeteria. A steak dinner will be the main feature of the gathering.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce organizes a carnival July 3 4 5 with Hills Greater Shows providing rides including a Tilt a Whirl a ferris wheel and octopus The Jaycees will host booths games and concessions at the courthouse south side Proceeds fund community projects Contact Larry Graham for music show participation committee members listed plans aim to attract many attendees and feature a courthouse steps music event if possible
Jim Roberts announces the Comanche Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a seminar on the Truth in Lending Law at the Texas Power & Light Hospitality Room Friday June 27 at 7 p m. The law takes effect July 1 1969 and covers all business credit. Preach Korton and Boyd Anthony will lead with an 18 minute film strip. Guests welcome for non members.
The Presbyterian congregations of Cross Plains and Comanche join for a Sunday worship at eleven in Comanche with lunch afterward. Rev H Grady James pastors both churches and preaches at 9 60 am in Comanche and 11 09 am in Cross Plains.
Subpoenas issued to numerous individuals in Comanche County and Stephenville to appear in District Court on July 1 in Comanche and July 7 in Stephenville for oral depositions in Case No 11 152. The litigation concerns a Wet-Dry vote in Proctor from April regarding the sale of all alcoholic beverages. Trial date not set. Plaintiffs James T. Roberts et al. vs. Jim Dudley County Attorney, Comanche County, Texas, with defendants named.
