Four peace officers led by Sheriff Belve Bean raided a cock fight near Gorman, Comanche County, Sunday afternoon. About 35 people attended. one operator and two referees were charged with combined fines of 97.50. Eight roosters were involved with several killed, and birds lay in underbrush as officers described a vicious scene.

July 4-8 holidays observed. one unit awarded on completion. Board actions include bills, ADA finances, summer repairs, athletic budget, and tax equalization board setup.
Masonic lodges across Comanche County Texas schedule a joint installation of officers for the new year on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Hope Lodge No. 481 will host in Comanche with Grand Secretary R. W. Harvey in charge. Named officers from De Leon, Sipe Springs, Gustine, and Comanche lodges are listed for the ceremony.
Mrs. T. K. Moore of Rt. 2 De Leon announces the engagement and approaching marriage of Clara Ann Moore to Wayne W. Sanders both of De Leon. The couple will exchange vows at 8 p.m. Saturday July 2 at the First Baptist Church in De Leon.

Bank call figures show total deposits in the two Comanche banks at 5,480,643 on June 15, up 153,173 from March 15 and 56,363 above a year ago. F. & M. National Bank of De Leon rose to 2,859,844, while Blanket State Bank reached 765,679. Loans and discounts across the banks totaled 1,651,722, up 75,682 from March 15 and 197,491 above last year. Local banks remain strong with Comanche National Bank reporting its best year in a year.

The council discussed closing Lake Eanes Park Gate at night except during family reunions. City Attorney Ben Doyle Sudderth to study the proposal. The body re invested 10 000 in Mercantile National Bank bonds at 3 25 percent until 1964. They voted to raise patrol and parking staff salaries and approve city vehicle fuel purchases. They planned street light upgrades and noted mercury vapor lights added on North Austin Street and East West Central Ave. New water lines were installed in the area.

A Newburg homecoming is scheduled for Sunday July 10. Former citizens and friends are invited to attend. The group will meet at ten o'clock at the Baptist Church followed by a group church service and a basket lunch under the oak tree at the Community Center.
Mr and Mrs Jamie Oden of 106 West College announce the birth of a son named John David born Wednesday morning June 22 at Medial Arts Hospital Brownwood. He weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces. He is the grandson of Earl Oden of Comanche and Ben Hulsey of De Leon. Both mother and child are well and expect to be home soon.
Sheriff Woody Young was renominated in the Hamilton County run off primary. He received 1186 votes while Houston White got 888. A total of 2074 votes were cast.
