Durham Braves Lead In Comanche Summer Baseball Standings

The Durham Braves hold a half game lead over Blanket and the Raiders in the Comanche Summer Baseball League after three weeks. In recent games Dudley’s fell to the Toppers 16-5, Blanket edged Gustine 11-9, and the Saints beat Gustine. Rusty Durham delivered the key triple for the Braves, Harold Perkins homered, and Danny Cagle pitched for Durham in Babe Ruth action. Minor League results saw the Toppers beat the Saints 17-6 and the Raiders 18-6. Standings show Raiders and Blanket at 2-0 in one section and 2-1 for the Saints with mixed early marks. A managers’ meeting is set for Friday at 8 pm. Summer Morning program reports strong turnout with 43 boys enrolled.

Officers Raid Cock Fight in Comanche County

Four peace officers led by Sheriff Belve Bean raided a cock fight near Gorman, Comanche County, Sunday afternoon. About 35 people attended. one operator and two referees were charged with combined fines of 97.50. Eight roosters were involved with several killed, and birds lay in underbrush as officers described a vicious scene.

County Bank Deposits Up Across Comanche Banks

Bank call figures show total deposits in the two Comanche banks at 5,480,643 on June 15, up 153,173 from March 15 and 56,363 above a year ago. F. & M. National Bank of De Leon rose to 2,859,844, while Blanket State Bank reached 765,679. Loans and discounts across the banks totaled 1,651,722, up 75,682 from March 15 and 197,491 above last year. Local banks remain strong with Comanche National Bank reporting its best year in a year.

City Council Mulls Lake Eanes Park Gate and Budget Moves

The council discussed closing Lake Eanes Park Gate at night except during family reunions. City Attorney Ben Doyle Sudderth to study the proposal. The body re invested 10 000 in Mercantile National Bank bonds at 3 25 percent until 1964. They voted to raise patrol and parking staff salaries and approve city vehicle fuel purchases. They planned street light upgrades and noted mercury vapor lights added on North Austin Street and East West Central Ave. New water lines were installed in the area.
