First Grain on Local Market Marks Start of Crop Season

The first wheat and oat crops of the year appeared in town on Monday. Tom Sliger delivered the first wheat and J. A. Lee with G. E. Smith brought in the first oats. Wheat sold to Higginbotham and others at 1.25 per bushel. oats at 55 cents. Comanche Milling Co. handled 20 bushels of wheat on a custom flour basis. Wheat opening price similar to last year.

Senator Earle B. Mayfield candidate for reelection may headline the Gustine annual picnic set for June 27 28 29. Ex Congressman Oscar Callaway and other figures are slated to speak with plans aimed at a successful event. A carnival midway and various concessions will entertain attendees.

Comanche Lions to be Entertained by Proctor Ladies

The Comanche Lions and their ladies will be entertained by Proctor citizens at a Ladies Nicht in July. The Proctor Woman's Missionary Society extended a dinner invitation to the Lions, serving as a social outing and a chance to renew relations with Proctor residents.

Lions Back C of C Delegation Heads to Fort Worth

The Lions Club bi weekly meeting at the Ridgeway endorsed sending a Comanche delegation to the West Texas Chamber of Commerce Convention in Fort Worth Tuesday. A committee of R. Hooker W. P. Duckett and W. H. Rowland was appointed to rally Comanche and Comanche County citizens for the trip.

Land Purchase Brings 800 Acres to San Antonio Buyer

W. QR Gardner of San Antonio became owner of 800 acres in Comanche County this week after purchasing a tract three miles southeast of Comanche from the First National Bank of Comanche.

Rescue attempt Ends in Tragedy Near Dublin

Ivan L Wolfe superintendent of Public schools and LaRue Schillenburg ten year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Jerome Schillenburg of Dublin drowned in the San Saba river eight miles from San Sabe while Mr Wolfe tried to save LaRue and her sister Aleen during a fishing trip. The river rose rapidly and both were swept away after Wolfe reached the bank with the older girl and went back for the younger.

Auto Crash Injures McBrayers in Fort Worth

Mr and Mrs N L McBrayer and son George ten were seriously hurt Monday when their car collided with Mrs Callaway s vehicle in Fort Worth Mrs McBrayer suffered both arms broken Also injured was Mrs O D Miller of Dodsonville. W Frank Raby fifty two was killed near Wichita Falls Saturday when hit by a car driven by Miss Laura Beville on a trip to Clarendon. Raby s body was taken to Comanche for funeral services. Comanche Delegates Aim for Fort Worth West Texas Chamber Meet

Comanche county plans to field over 100 delegates for the West Texas Chamber of Commerce Annual Convention in Fort Worth. A Comanche headquarters network is set up with Judge Luker and local business leaders coordinating in Fort Worth. Frisco Wins Mixed Train Approval From State Rail Commission

At a meeting in Austin the Frisco railway won approval to run mixed trains from Brownwood to Fort Worth via Comanche. The change affects passenger trains through Comanche at 10 a.m. to Fort Worth and at 1 40 p.m. to Brownwood. The exact start date was not announced.

County Poultry School Set to Start Monday in Comanche

Comanche County plans a Poultry School beginning Monday June 18 and running through Friday afternoon. Poultry Specialist Mrs. Elizabeth Temple will join Mr. Barton to guide sessions on chickens and turkeys, focusing on sanitation and disease prevention. Sick birds may be examined during the school at various locations including R W Couch farm and Beattie Community Hall with a special 9 50 am meeting at the county agent's office Tuesday.
