Jersey Shows Draw Large Attendance in De Leon

Jersey shows drew strong crowds in De Leon over Monday and Tuesday with 49 head in the county event and 96 head entered in the district show. Judges Gib son and Simons credited top Jerseys from Diamond C Jersey Farm Peyton Jersey Farm and John Tarleton Agricultural College among others with grand and junior champions.

Dennie Conner Killed in Brownwood Oil Mill Accident

Dennie W. Conner 52, an oiler and former Comanchean, died at Memorial Hospital after an oil mill accident at Brownwood Cotton Oil Mill Monday. His clothing tangled in a main shaft, tearing most of his garments and hurling him to the floor before the mill could stop. He had worked at the mill since 1939. Survivors include his widow Verbena Cooner and children Mrs. Chapman of Alva Oklahoma Mrs Montgomery of Ennis Jerry Conner and Ida McCarty a sister. He was born July 18 1893 in Homer Louisiana and had lived in Texas since age six. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Chimes of First Baptist Church Honor Father's Day Services

Sunday worship at First Baptist Church honors fathers with morning sermon The Unfaltering Faith and evening message Our Father Who Art in Heaven. The church featured a grand floral display of gladioli donated by Miss Alice Roberson and Jim Johnson, arranged by Mrs. Jack Moore and Mrs. W A Roberson. The wedding bells rang as Myrlene Steele married Therman Fagan and Dixie Helen Massingill wed Harold L Roberts. A Father and Son Banquet is set for Friday June 28 with Dr. T T Taylor of Howard Payne College as principal speaker.

See and Hear A Chalk Talk On Fathers Day

This Sundays eight oclock program at First Baptist Church features a chalk talk by the pastor with a pastel painting and a sermon titled Our Father Who Art in Heaven. The event invites all to view the artwork and listen to the message. Saturday Deadline For County Candidates To File

County candidates must file by June 15 with Democratic Chairman R L Lane or secretary J R Eanes to appear on the July primary ballot. Lane urged timely filing to avoid missing the ballot. Contract Set To Let For Beattie Duster to Highway 16 Road

The State Highway Department plans a June 26 letting for an 8.4 mile farm to market road from Beattie to Duster and east to Highway 16 in De Leon. The project includes grading drainage structures a flexible base and an asphalt surface. Funds for a Sidney to Highway 36 West link will be available July 1.

Methodist Vacation Bible School Ends. Father’s Day Plea

First Methodist Church announces the Vacation Bible School closes Friday June 14 after a productive two weeks with strong teachers and cooperative youth. The Comanche Roping Club resumes roping next Tuesday night at the arena south of the football field. New president M. E. Gore says a large membership drive is planned to fund a professional rodeo August 15 16 17 with an estimated $2 000 to $3 000 needed and funds to be repaid if weather favors success.

Veterans tour Soil Conservation sites in Rising Star

Sixty five veterans from the South end of Comanche County with four instructors toured Rising Star to observe Soil Conservation Service work on soil loss through leaching erosion and poor crop rotation. A second group of fifty from the North end followed a week later. They visited farms showing damaged topsoil and discussed nutrients and cover crops like vetch to restore humus and improve soil fertility.
