Jail Break Foiled by Sheriff's Daughter Rescue
Mrs Tom Cox Jr 20 daughter of Sheriff W P St Clair slept near the jail when a hole was made by T C Masters facing car theft charges. She woke to scraping noises and spotted a shadow from a second story light. She retrieved a pistol and woke her father as Masters neared escape, but Cox restrained the man after he had removed mortar and stone to slip through the hole.

Dublin Fire Loss Estimated at Fifty Thousand
A Dublin fire caused about 50 000 dollars in losses with the largest single item a 25 000 dollar peanut cache owned by the South West Peanut Growers Association. A home and other structures were damaged, including a building tied to a local grocer.

Mrs Artie Lake Dies at 79 in Comanche County
Mrs. Artie Lake 79 died Saturday night May 29 at the home of her son J C Lake Comanche Route 4. Funeral services were held May 30 at Indian Gap with Rev Barnett officiating. Interment followed at Indian Gap Cemetery. She was born in Nacogdoches County and later lived in Cherokee County before marrying E F Lake in 1883. he died in Mills County seven years ago. Survived by a grandson James E Lake and two brothers Jim Gunter Sour Lake and Clathorn Gunter Cherokee County. The family had resided in Comanche and Mills Counties for 50 years. Beth Dixon of Santa One visited relatives in Comanche last week.

Mr and Mrs Lawrence Lanford of Blanket report four sons in the U S Army all holding commissions. Captain Don L Lanford earned a first lieutenant rating in 1939 and has served in Hawaii Bermuda and North Carolina. Lieutenant Herbert Rex Lanford graduated in 1943 and trained at Fort Davis NC earning a second lieutenant commission. Lieutenant Finch Scott Lanford rose from corporal to second lieutenant after training at Fort Davis NC and is stationed at Camp Edwards.

Dr Geo W Truett pastor of First Baptist Dallas, a world renowned minister, was scheduled to speak at Comanche Baptist revival at eleven o clock this morning. Dr E D Head from Mercer Gap Baptist Church also attended as part of the revival. The event continues through next week with Dr Perry Evans of Fort Worth’s Baptist Seminary preaching and Fort Worth volunteers leading singing. Mrs Earl Moore, wife of Brownwood’s First Baptist pastor, serves as organist.
