Pearl Harbor Avengers Plan Set for Nationwide Enlistment Day

On June 7 1942 at 1 55 pm Texas War Time six months after Pearl Harbor a mass ceremony will enlist many Americans as Pearl Harbor Avengers at Abilene and 499 Navy recruiting stations nationwide A patriotic parade will precede the ceremony Age 17 to 50 sought skilled and unskilled men may qualify for petty officer ratings Apply in person at the Abilene station Immediate enlistment for Selective Service registrants without Army orders.

Registra tion Date Set For 18 and 19 Year Olds

President Roosevelt orders June 30 as the fifth national registration for men 18 and 19 to complete the wartime manpower canvass. Those 18 and 19 are not subject to service. Also registering are men who turned 20 between Dec 31, 1941 and June 30, 1942, who would be eligible for service. About 40 million have registered in prior rounds. 2 to 3 million more expected.

Five Year Old Son of Lloyds Killed in Arizona Crash

James Vaden Lloyd five year old son of Mr and Mrs Arnold Lloyd died in a wreck near Williams Arizona. His parents and Mrs Earl Rainey and Williard Jones were injured. The accident occurred while traveling from Alameda California to Knott Texas. Bodies were sent to Knott for burial. the Lloyds formerly lived here.

Plant Sentenced To Two Years For Forgery

E. C. Plant of Dallas pleaded guilty to a forgery charge in Comanche before District Judge R. B. Cross. He was sentenced to two years in the State penitentiary and granted credit for time already served in jail since the arrest.

Local Banks Little Affected by Three Month Loan Law

Comanche County residents are little impacted by a new federal rule limiting certain loans to periods under three months for sums up to 1500 dollars. Comanche National Bank president William C. Chilton, speaking after a bankers convention in San Antonio, notes many exceptions. Loans for livestock farming seasonal labor and business financing fall outside the restriction, and the aim is to spur savings and Victory Bond investments.

Flower Show Bis Success

The Comanche Garden Club held its fourth annual Flower Show at the courthouse basement Red Cross workroom drawing over 300 guests the largest local show yet. Exhibits praised for balance and design with special displays including a rose Red Cross piece and a miniature home landscape. Proceeds totaled 55.90 to be donated to the Red Cross.

Trucks Exempt From New Return Load Law Says Russell

A Washington interpretation states fruit and vegetable transport trucks are exempt from the new return load law. Congressman Sam Russell advised Comanche County Chamber of Commerce president H M Vineyard that Section B of the act exempts motor trucks operated by farmers transporting agricultural commodities from farm to farm.

Mrs. Cleve Callaway secretary of the Comanche County Local Board urges all registrants to report any change of address immediately with penalties for noncompliance. Those who have passed medical and been inducted are placed in Class 1 C as members of land or naval forces.

Injunction Issued Against Rainbow Inn at Comanche

A temporary injunction bans the Rainbow Inn operators Jay Durham Mrs. Jay Durham and Dick Hazzard from using nickel odian or other musical devices after midnight to six AM and from selling or permitting intoxicating liquors on the premises. The order directs keeping drinks off the premises and reporting any intoxication to authorities.
