A. S. Harris assumed duties as secretary of the Y M B L Thursday. The office is fitted up in the rear of the First National Bank Building. Harris is well suited for the role, with strong knowledge of the county and town. The move strengthens the league as it prepares to advance city and county for real development.
The Comanche school board elected R. F. Holloway as Superintendent, J. B. Layne as High School Principal, and named teachers for English history Latin domestic science and grades 7 to 1 across West and East Ward schools. Only four are new. the district emphasizes home-grown staff and a prosperous year ahead.
Mr. J. F. Tate repairs the south side roof of his building as part of a general overhaul of its appearance. Norton & Company repaint the front to improve its look.
A recommendation letter from W D Jenkins supports Daisy Sumner Deely for county superintendent. It cites her qualifications from Sam Houston Normal, teaching in rural and city schools, and her ability to manage duties and business affairs since her husband’s death. He urges voters to support her.
Lee Millholland left Wednesday for Fort Worth to take a post as inspector for the Live Stock Sanitary Commission. He is a well known Comanche figure, whose stock experience fits the new role and friends wish him success.
Every man woman and child is expected on the square Friday June 9 between 8 30 and 10 30 p m. The notice calls for wide participation in a public gathering on the town square.

Homer Atchison born 1871 Missouri died Friday May 26 after a long illness. He moved to Comanche county in 1880 and served as constable before retiring due to health. Survived by wife Mattie V. Cooper and three children, burial at Stag Creek after services conducted by Rev. White.
Mrs J H Bryson sold 600 head of steers and made delivery last week. Part of the cattle were shipped Sunday. The quantity represents a sizable number and a significant sum for today.
The Comanche Summer Normal began on Tuesday May 30 drawing the largest turnout ever for the program. First day enrollment reached 100, surpassing the previous 80. Officials predict enrollment may hit 150 as the session progresses with Rev. Tenny leading devotions and Mayor Eanes delivering the welcome. Local faculty include R F Holloway conductor J B Layne Ola Cunningham and Mrs A C Cathey with out of town team A R Jarrett and Miss Biddie Smith of DeLeon.
On May 26 the Comanche High School Alumni held their annual banquet with 85 former students served by the Christian church ladies. Toastmaster Garrett E. Palmer led a program of talks, readings, and musical pieces before a business session elected W. H. Carpenter as President Elbert Cox as Vice President Hattie Brightman as Secretary and Ike West as Treasurer. The group unanimously decided to hold another banquet next year.
A free public library fundraiser on Friday night June 9 features songs by a male quartette the High School Glee Club and the High School Band. The event runs 8 30 to 10 30 with chairs on the lawn and ice cream and candy sold at two booths. All residents and visitors are invited.

Tol Beckham, Zephyr postmaster, shot and killed George Horton last Saturday night at 10 45 in Zephyr. He reportedly went to his yard with a shotgun seeking a visitor and fired as the man fled, killing him instantly. The incident occurred near Zephyr with details from the Brownwood Bulletin.
