Former High School Coach Becomes Navy Ensign

D A Swope longtime athletic coach at Comanche High School in 1942 and Gus tine High School for years has become an ensign in the United States Navy. Ensign Swope joined Sea Bees last December and trained at Norfolk before a brief overseas period. He returned to California and is now stationed at the University of Arizona in Tucson as a physical education instructor. Mrs. Swope accompanies him in Tucson.

Farmers To Get First Chance At Release of Emergency Tires

Cha H L Stewart of the Comanche County War Price and Rationing Board announced farmers will have first choice of the last batch of government emergency tires. The six month crisis could leave tires scarce until synth rubber is available for civilians. Stewart warned that tire certificates may become scarce and urged rural dealers to order from the Rubber Manufacturers Association or Defense Supplies Corporation. Dealers may order in units as small as 25 at 80 cents to the dealer and one dollar to the consumer.

District American Legion Convention Set for De Leon Weekend

The District Convention of the American Legion will meet Saturday and Sunday July 31 and August 1 in De Leon. Notables from Camp Bowie Wolters and Barkeley are expected including Congressman Sam Russell and State Senator Penrose Metcalfe. Events include registration, worship service with Lt Governor John Lee Smith, a 12 o clock dinner, a 2 o clock business session and a watermelon cutting around 4.
