Bibb village in Comanche County recalls its heyday

Bible town Bibb once thrived in Comanche County. The 1876 post office, first postmaster J W Morris, early merchants and trades mark its rise. By 1881 John Henry Majors opened the first store, with a barefooted household that became local lore, followed by gin, drug store, blacksmith and broom factory ventures. Page 3 continues.

Air Medal Awarded to Maj Norman G Morris for South Pacific Service

Maj Norman G Morris 28 son of Mr and Mrs Earl Morris of Sipe Springs won the Air Medal at Keily Field San Antonio May 11 1940 before sailing for New Guinea duty in the South Pacific. He played football at Rising Star High School and Daniel Baker College where he earned all conference honors. He later moved to Cross Plains after graduation.

County Livestock Association Sets Aug 18 Barbecue and Meeting

The County Livestock Association announces its annual barbecue and membership meeting will be held at Lake Barbette on August 18. President C M Caraway will preside with plans finalized by directors, featuring talks from Calvin Holcomb and other officials on breeding and feeding of livestock as the core focus.

Texas Flying Hero Praises Chennault Shooting Eye

Maj. Bert E. Carleton of Proctor, a Flying Tiger pilot, praises Gen. Claire Chennault for duck hunting skills and recalls their Burma Road service. Carleton notes his own DFC, Silver Star, and Air Medal earned in 1942 43 while flying unarmed transports under hazardous conditions. He returns from China to India and awaits new assignment in Indianapolis after July 12.

Baptist Revival Opens Tonight At Pettit Church

County Clerk Miss Claudia Fisher announces that the County Commissioners Court will act as the Board of Equalization on July 27 28 and 29 at the courthouse. Taxpayers may appear by personal citation to discuss their assessments with the board.

Red Cross Seeks Volunteers for Bandage Quota Drive

Local Red Cross chapter appeals for volunteers to meet an emergency bandage quota from headquarters. The work room on the court house third floor operates weekdays after 1 30 pm and Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Supervisors urge more workers, noting only about twenty five women currently handle bulk of tasks.
