Despite war and gasoline rationing the 36th Annual Session of the Comanche County Old Settlers Reunion at Lake Eanes on Wednesday July 21 is expected to bring a large crowd of old timers and residents from across the county and beyond. A pioneer citizen notes he will save his last gasoline coupon for the reunion.
Officers and directors of the Comanche County Livestock Association will meet Friday night July 9 at 8 30 at the Chamber of Commerce office in Comanche per secretary J R Eanes. The notice is from the association’s secretary.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram halts taking new subscribers until further notice. Existing subscribers may renew at expiration to remain active. The Comanche Chief continues new subscriptions but will drop all current subscribers if renewals lag after expiration notices.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Lee Mc Kimmey and their son have returned home after an absence, ending their trip or absence. The notice confirms their reunion and domestic return.
Lt Hulbert H. Robertson was honored in a Sunday service at Taylor's Chapel with widow Mrs. H. H. Robertson and daughter Gwendolyn among mourners. Relatives present included parents Mr. and Mrs. Robertson and siblings, while many friends and neighbors attended. Robertson served since January 1938, trained in heavy artillery then Army Air Corps, and was killed after returning from England less than a month earlier. Additional attendees included Lt Robertson’s sister-in-law and extended family from Dublin Comanche and other Texas towns.
The War Production Board extends the deadline for farm electrification to July 31 under the U-1-C order. A. C. Thomas of the Comanche REA says wiring and line materials are released to extend electric service to farms producing needed foods, with criteria including animal unit rules. By June 30, about 184 farms had approval and roughly 30,000 nationwide farms are electrified or ready to be. The plan targets Brown and Mills counties among others to boost food output and poultry production.
Is Lord C Mercer Jr among five second lieutenants killed when an Air Service plane crashed near Travis County during a routine flight. The Mercer family, long based in Angelo, Texas, mourns as official notice confirms the pilot and fellow crewmen perished. The Mercer board of officers faced strain upon hearing the loss.
Comanche Methodists schedule August 8 15 for paying off the 50000 First Methodist Church debt and dedicating the building. A townwide homecoming will feature nightly sermons by three county ministers and guests from Dallas Coleman Taylor Breckenridge Graham and Fort Worth with Bishop Holt presiding at a noon community dinner on August 15.
Naval Cadet Joe Waring, son of Mr and Mrs John D Waring Jr, left Thursday for Fayette Missouri to begin training. He is a 1943 graduate with a noted record in naval aviation.

County records show combined debts and obligations totaling 3 446 674 30 with entries from De Leon Gustine and Randolph Field related to local government and military service. County Superintendent Dale Howard heads a brief leave from July 19 while J C Helm Jr. serves in the Army at Randolph Field in San Antonio.
John Sullivan son of Mrs Lizzie Sullivan of Comanche has been promoted from lieutenant to first lieutenant. He is assigned to the infantry at Camp Roberts California. Before his enlistment last summer he served as principal of Hamilton High School.

Comanche County War Bond Committee chairman W. C. Chilton states the Withholding Tax does not add tax but helps employees set aside funds for War Savings Bonds. He notes reduced Victory tax, tax deduction on filing, and that withholding amounts are a small portion of salary. He urges heavier bond purchases to support war expenditures.
All time high postal receipts for Comanche were reported with a quarter closing June 30 marking the largest on record. In 1941-42, stamps sales topped $5,900 for April through June, a new milestone, while quarterly totals reached about $6,300 in the third quarter and $6,700 in the fourth quarter.
