The Comanche County Commissioners explain their action adding 5 to 6 million dollars of previously unrendered property to the tax rolls. They describe it as an adjustment or equalization rather than a tax rate rise and set a Board of Equalization meeting for July 19 at 9:00.
The Chamber released a color postcard depicting the old oak tree and bicentennial park for local stocking. Comanche visitors request the card as a souvenir, and a strong response may prompt a second Comanche view postcard. New members listed are Comanche Trading Post and C. L. Two Comanche residents, a woman and a man, were treated for stabbing injuries in separate incidents. Leonard Dale Sneed is jailed on aggravated assault charges for attacking his wife Delores Catherine, who suffered multiple stab wounds while traveling with their two children near State Highway 36 and FM 2861. Julius Herrera received extensive facial lacerations at 202 N Pearl and was hospitalized. Refugio Garcia Lopez was charged in connection with that stabbing.
Comanche Volunteer Fire Department answered eleven calls in June per Fire Marshal Dale Nowlin. Seven grass fires were reported with five outside city limits and two outside. incidents included a residential blaze a mobile home fire an electrical short and a false alarm. Eight thousand six hundred gallons of water were used and the rigs logged110 miles in response and fighting efforts.
A proposed school finance bill HB 1 would raise Comanche Independent School District aid to 148 200 for 1978 79 under a new minimum foundation program. The measure relies on a 019 per 100 property tax and 205 per 100 agricultural value, with hearings underway and several districts showing different gains.
Three major educator associations endorsed Sen. Oscar Maury’s 932.7 million public school finance bill while urging less emphasis on equalization. TSAC and the Big Seven leaders cited balance favors and urged shifting some funds to cut local shares, amid a debate on LFA allocations and tax rates.
Comanche County Sheriff's Department reports a busy June with Sheriff W G Garman and Deputies Elliott and Donaldson investigating one burglary six thefts one vandalism case and one assault complaint. After hour calls totaled 162. The office served 36 warrants and 46 civil papers were executed. Jail population stood at 38.
Chief Charles Anders presents June figures: 67 traffic tickets and 25 warnings issued, 10 arrests with 8 jailed, 9 motor vehicle accidents investigated, 84 incidents reported, and 3 patrol cars logged 6,165 miles on duty.
