The health program, led by Miss Jean Dunnett, will administer the first free dose of diphtheria toxoid Thursday July 9 at the high school from 10 am to noon. About one hundred smallpox vaccinations were given previously due to depleted toxoid supply. Parents of children aged 1 to 12 are urged to bring their children for the free vaccination, with a second dose scheduled three weeks later.
Sharpers roam New York, from Wall Street to sidewalks, aiming to part visitors from money. Street performers and boot locks ply intermission acts to beg coins, while polite shoe shines and con artists alike test travelers' vigilance in the city.
Dr. J J Osterhout reports Comanche Hospital ready for service with Arthur House site adapted as sanitarium. Mrs Osterhout to run office and nursing, first patient Mrs Jno Jacobs underwent operation June 24 and left June 28. Osterhout aims to expand with modern facilities to provide top medical care for about twenty thousand local residents.
A. McDonald has opened an ice station in the former Vineyard's Grocery building on the north side of the square. The new depot will operate from Friday with two dock facilities and ongoing business plans in the area.
About 6000 acres of grain were harvested near Priddy with two thirds of threshing done. The yield is the best in the area per Adolph Kunkel and Carl Jeske notes a 25 percent rise in acreage. Oats 45 to 88 bushels per acre, wheat 25 to 38, barley over sixty. Jaoner threshed 6482 bushels from 110 acres.
At 8 00 PM Saturday June 27 concrete was laid to the Comanche county line on Highway No 10. Contractors aim to finish the two mile stretch beyond Blanket and begin the opposite end Monday. Construction will cross Bayou valley and connect with main street at Harris Motor Company corner. The western end will be 20 feet wide and Marshall Moore will start bridge work on the Colorado crossing between Brownwood and Brady next week.
Two cars of wool shipped from Comanche Saturday totaling 28 000 pounds sent over the Cotton Belt to Boston. Wool produced by Walter Barrett and Clarence Albin sold to Max Marshall of San Angelo for 16 cents. Ten cars totaling over 800 000 pounds and a car of mohair were shipped from Comanche this season.
J. W. Priddy harvested more than 8000 bushels of oats from a hundred acre tract. Ernest Walters topped crops with wheat averaging 38 bushels and a 41 bushel patch, while Walters oats averaged 88 bushels.
The first shipment of black eyed peas to the Tasty Food Products Company in Brownwood moved Wednesday as Ogden Wetzel oversaw loading at the local ice plant. The firm will buy peas on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Fridays, with farmers required to bring nine pounds of snapping peas for every ten pounds shelled, and only black eyed peas accepted.
A. F. E. Thompson assumes control of the Star Service Station on the Brownwood highway effective July 1. He will keep operating his battery station at the same stand, with the filling station added as an extra business.
A new diving tower was erected at Lake Banes swimming pool this week funded by donations from local boys and businessmen. Funds covered materials and labor donated for the project.

County farmers report the largest grain crop in history with high yields and low costs. Oats average about 50 bushels per acre with top fields near 90. wheat averages over 25, best around 38. Barley 40 to 50 bushels. Notable yields include W A Helium’s 1258 bushels from five acres and Fd Mabry’s 72 bushels per acre wheat with $15.20 gross per acre.
