Robert Dee Lee Earns Agriculture Degree at East Texas State

Comanche High graduate Robert Dee Lee son of Mr and Mrs Joe B Lee of Hasse received the Degree of Science in Agriculture at East Texas State College during the commencement exercises on May 22. Mr and Mrs Lee and son Calvin attended. Lee made an outstanding college record.

Comanche Graduate Jerry Vines to Receive Tech Degree

Jerry Vines a Comanche High School graduate, son of Mr and Mrs O L Vines, formerly of Newburg and now Brownwood, will receive a B S in Animal Husbandry at Texas Tech commencement. He will also be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Corps. Attending from Brownwood will be Mr and Mrs Walter Barret, parents of Mrs Jerry Vines.

Kenneth Pinson To Receive University Degree

Comanche High School graduate Kenneth Pinson son of Mr and Mrs Roy Pinson will receive a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Texas commencement exercises on June 4. He will also receive his in the Air Corps.

CHS Seniors And Sponsors Report Favorable Trip

About 60 CHS seniors and sponsors visited Lake Texoma and praised the trip. Sponsors Mrs. Homer Palmer Miss Hattie Brightman Mr. Moore and Mr. Morris lauded the seniors for cooperation and conduct. Students called Lake Texoma a wonderful fun spot with water skiing surf board riding boat rides and more.

McConnell and Galiga to Get Degree at HPC

Palma T. Galiga of Comanche will receive a Master of Education degree at Howard Payne College this Friday night. Rev. Robert McConnell, Director of Music and Youth Activities at the local First Baptist Church, will receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Galiga studied the History of Comanche County Schools for his graduation thesis.

T. R. Wiliams To Receive Degree From North Texas State

Denton May 24 Thomas Robert Williams of Comanche is among 518 students applying for bachelor’s degrees at North Texas State College this semester. Baccalaureate services are set for 11 a.m. Sunday May 22 and commencement at 8 p.m. Thursday May 26. He is son of Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Williams of Zephyr and candidate for the bachelor of science in industrial arts.

Garret Palmer to Receive Baylor Law Degree May 27

Garret Wells Palmer of Comanche will be among 595 Baylor University graduates receiving degrees on May 27. Dr W Morris Ford will preach the baccalaureate sermon and Miss Maurine Walker of Austin will deliver the commencement address. The exercises close Baylor’s 110th year and mark Mary Gentry’s 100th anniversary as the first woman student to earn a degree in 1855.

Sunday School attendance in the Comanche area rose well above 1300 last Sunday, per reports to The Chief. The weekly feature compiles church reports. some churches may be missed, and superintendents are urged to submit reports to No 210.

Capacity Crowd At Local School Closing Program

A capacity crowd filled the Comanche High School auditorium for graduation exercises held Monday night. Rev. William M. Gould delivered the sermon on Majoring in Minors. Sixty one seniors received diplomas, with twenty named as honor students for averages of 90 or above.

Most Firms To Close Monday For Decoration Day

Comanche firms will remain closed Monday May 40 due to Decoration Day per an announcement by William E. Clemons president of the Chamber of Commerce. The chamber had previously voted New Year July 4 Labor Day Monday September 5 Thanksgiving Day Thursday November 25 and Christmas Sunday December 25 as holidays. Christmas Monday December 26 will be observed.

San Antonio Lady Conducting Charm School

Mrs. Ernestine Ehlo of Charm, Incorporated leads charm sessions at the Comanche FHA chapter in San Antonio. She trains girls on posture, exercises, hand care, dancing etiquette, and boy girl relations during daily one hour sessions and afternoon discussions. The program is part of summer offerings at the Homemaking Cottage.

State Board and Upper Leon SCS District grant approval for Rush Creek and Besley Creek flood control projects. USDA and Congress still needed for final funding and construction. Local officials and Hugh O Brien Jr push for quick federal support while districts plan cost sharing and remedial measures. County Home Demonstration Agent Resigns

Mrs. J. B. Arthur Jr. resigns from the Comanche County Home Demonstration after several years of service effective June 15. She plans to move to Alaska with her husband in the Armed Forces and seek Civil Service work. Annie Lucy Lane credits Arthur with an outstanding record and will assist in selecting a replacement for the $3000 to $3500 per year position funded by county state and federal aid.

Stag Creek Wins District Pasture Contest Prize

Stag Creek Community was named District winner for 1954-55 in the Pasture contest, sponsored by WFAA and the Dallas Morning News, earning a $250 prize to be awarded later. Soda Springs placed second and won $150, both communities praised for work improving local life.

Comanche High School reflects on its 1955 senior class of sixty-one graduates noted for discipline leadership and achievement. Notable names include Lee Price Carpenter Kirkland Lester Willis Coulter Elrod Timmons Brownlee Carter Greene Steete Goforth Curry and Jane Cagle who served as State FHA president. David Willis led as student president, La Gene Manchester posted a 97.6 average, and the class earned a third in the State Seema meet.
