Three feet of oil bearing sand was found at 3 feet in the Kite Lease well near Hasse. Logs show additional sands at 93 and 110 feet that did not yield oil, while a promising oil bearing sand may occur around 300 to 400 feet with a gas bearing sand near 500 feet and another oil bearing sand around 600 feet as exploration continues.
A community meeting is planned in Hasse this evening at 7 15. County Superintendent R S Wal will speak as the main presenter. The program includes a general talk with entertaining features.
Mrs J H Bryson and son sold 700 mutton lambs to J C Smith of Falley Mills for feeding. Rufe Fielder bought 45 high grade ewe lambs from J B Allecorn in Sidney. Will Rollins purchased 60 two and three year old ewes from J B Alborn for pasture. Albert Cunningham shipped 159 mixed sheep to Fort Worth. D R Barbee shipped two cars last week and one car this week of ewes from Comanche.
The Energy Baptist Church held a Sunday School reorganization on Sunday morning January 20. W. P. Magness was elected superintendent with J. Y. Robinson as assistant superintendent and Miss Mila Mae Middleton as secretary. Teachers named include Troy Morgan for the Adult Class, Mrs. Hattie George for the Senior Class, Miss Leota Rudd for the Junior Class, and Mrs. S. J. Isham for the Beginners Department.
J W ilcorn urges Comanche County Commissioners to hire a local trapper with federal backing to curb wolves and predatory animals. He notes Eastland Crown and neighboring counties already employ trappers, reducing losses to sheep goats and turkeys, and argues county costs would be minimal if the plan proceeds.
An election is ordered to decide if 2,000 in bonds will be issued to repair and equip the Bir Independent School Districts buildings. If approved, the February 16 vote will lead to reseating the auditorium and building a teacherage.

Thursday, Jan. 31, is the last day to pay taxes without penalty per Mrs. B W Speed county tax collector. After Jan 31 a penalty on auto licenses unless affidavit proves no use in 1929. Only 2,100 of an estimated 3,500 licenses issued. City and school taxes lag. city assessed 27,415 88 with 12,243 57 paid. school 25,099 21 with 10,779 15 paid.

The Beattie Community Club reorganized last Friday with B. Ray McCorkle elected President and Miss Mildred Taylor as Secretary. The session followed by a strong program and the club, one of the county’s oldest, continues its comprehensive activities.

County Agent J A Barton reports 194 farms terraced in 1928 covering 5800 acres led by Comyn with 2500. Since the program began about 20 000 acres terraces have raised land value by 200 000 and boosted annual income. Trials show 25 percent gains on terraced land versus untended plots. Farmers cite higher cotton, oats and general yields on terraces and advocate wider terraces for greater gains.
A barn owned by Will Satterfield burned completely on Tuesday with a fire destroying furniture stored inside and cow feed. The Comanche Fire Department fought the blaze, which caused about 460 dollars in losses.
The Comanche Lions Club will host a 7 o'clock luncheon for their ladies at the Ridgeway on Monday evening January 28, led by President Rev. Ben F. Hearn.
