Editorials on taxes and education funding in 1955 Texas
The piece discusses Foster's U.S. Foreign Service appointment as an honor for her and her family. It outlines Governor Shivers proposed tax increases to fund higher education and general state spending, including a two cent sales tax boost for higher education and a one cent increase for general spending, plus tuition hikes. Lawmakers express mixed views, with some supporting new taxes and others opposing them.
