Lt. Palmer Returns Home After Year in the Pacific

First Lieutenant McKay Evan Palmer Army Air Force pilot arrived home after a year overseas in the South Pacific. He logged 175 combat missions piloting A-20 Boston Dive Bombers and occasionally B-26s. Palmer, 6 ft 3, starred at Ex-Comanche High School in basketball football and baseball. He spent most of his service in New Guinea with a stopover on Leyte. He is son of Evan and Mrs. Palmer of Comanche now Brownwood and grandson of Mrs. W. D. McKay. He hopes for duty against Germany after leave.

Comanche Soldier Decorated in Italy for Meritorious Service

Private First Class Raymond B. Drake of Comanche received the Bronze Star for meritorious service in combat with an armored infantry battalion of the 1st Armored Division on the Fifth Army front in Italy. His mother, Mrs. Lama Drake, lives in Comanche.

Mrs. W. C. Watkins Claimed By Death

Funeral rites for Mrs. W. C. Watkins were held at Stag Creek with Dr. Klingman officiating. She died January 1 1945 after a brief illness and is survived by husband W. C. Watkins and a large Moore family including Olivia and A. O. Moore, with numerous relatives and out of town mourners listed.

Gustine Beekeeper Nets Over $2,000 From Honey in '44

J. H. Robinson, a Gustine beekeeper, reports about 11,500 pounds of honey from 225 colonies in Comanche County. He sold the honey for an average of 18 cents per pound, netting over $2,000, with yields best since 1939. He notes bees from native plants are in good condition and expect a mild winter and strong spring buildup.
