Blanket To Have Natural Gas Service

The Brown County Commissioners Court granted Horace White and C. E. Williams permission to lay and maintain a natural gas line from Salt Creek field to Blanket. Records show H. M. McDaniel and wife sold half interests in a gas pipeline and May Gas System to the Williams partnership, including right of way and equipment.

The Home Economics Department of Comanche High School presents a musical style show at the high school auditorium Tuesday evening with dresses the students made this year. An extra chapel program at 10 40 will feature Civil War to modern clothing and fashion comparisons.

President's Ball At De Leon Jan. 30

The President's birthday ball will be held January 30 in the American Legion Room at De Leon City Hall from eight to eleven p.m. Proceeds benefit the Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. Fifth Calf Show Set for March 7 in Comanche County

The Fifth Annual FPA boys and 4 H Girls Calf Show for Comanche County will be held Thursday March 7 two days before the Fort Worth Fat Stock Show opens. About fifty calves are on feed and inspectors believe the best calves yet may be shown. Medals and cash prizes will be awarded, per early notice from The Chief.

REA Building 4 Miles New Line Nearing Completion

Comanche County Electric Co-Operative advances a 40 mile B section in Comanche County with Uvalde Construction, led by superintendent Mr. Jones, aiming to finish in two weeks. C Section with 159 miles in Brown County has been sent to Washington for approval. Approximately 175 miles in Eastland County already completed.

Hasse Girls and May Boys Win Blanket Gym Tourney

The Blanket High School tournament crowned champions in both divisions. May High School won the boys title 25 to 24 over Pettit, while Hasse girls upset Buffalo 31 to 23 for the girls crown. Awards named Gleaton Fisher Perkins Johnson Johnson and McCurdy among top players.

Elm Grove and Sidney Schools Vote on Consolidation Plan

Elm Grove and Sidney schools plan to consolidate via a proposition not yet dated. Students and teacher Edwin A Sarter have moved to Sidney. Elm Grove cannot meet rural aid requirements, making a home school impractical. Consolidation offers a permanent Elm Grove bus route, a Sid ney School Board representative, and shared tax levels with Sidney. Sidney, led by J B Cooper, has nine teachers and a strong county reputation.

John Magness Dies Sud­denly in West Comanche

John Magness 67 of Comanche County died suddenly at his home in West Comanche Monday afternoon after returning from a visit with his brother Carroll Magness. Survived by widow Maud, eight children, and several grandchildren. Funeral held at Comanche Church of Christ with A. C. Nance officiating. interment at Oakwood Cemetery.

Russell Charts Platform In Hazel Dell Campaign Speech

District Judge Sam Russell of Stephenville spoke at Hazel Dell School in Comanche County outlining his Congressional platform. He urged keeping the US out of war or, if war comes, universal draft and taxes on the wealthy, plus stronger immigration controls and stricter controls on liquor advertising moving pictures and radio. He also called for supporting agriculture, balanced federal spending, home ownership, morality, conservation, soil improvement, and pensions reform.

Three Fined In Liquor Law Violations In County Court

Henry Soward R D Wood and Jake Cockrell were fined in County Court this week for liquor law violations. Soward paid $100 fine and $22.80 costs for illegal sale of intoxicating liquor. Wood incurred $100 fine and $22.80 costs for illegal possession. Cockrell pled guilty and faced $100 fine plus $22.80 costs for illegal possession.

Voters face Jan 31 poll tax deadline in 1940 election year

Voters must have their poll tax receipts by midnight Wednesday January 31 to qualify for the 1940 election. As of Tuesday night 1423 of 4805 had paid. The notice stresses tax payment for participation and notes one dollar of the tax funds public schools.

Frank M. Allen of DeLeon is appointed 1940 Federal Census Enumerator for Comanche County. He began collecting business and industrial statistics January 2 with general census work starting April 2. About fifty additional enumerators and supervisors will be added mid March. applications for enumerator posts require no formal filing or exam. The Abilene district supervisor’s office is in Room 308-309, Post Office Building, Abilene, Texas, with inquiries directed there.

Andersons Observe Fiftieth Wedding Date

On January 16 1940 Mr and Mrs Hub A Anderson of Sipe Springs celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. They married in Van Zandt County Texas and moved to Tom Green County in 1908 later settling in Sipe Springs in 1913.
