Orders For Certified Cotton Seed Open To All Farmers
N H Payne of the Farm Bureau urges farmers to place orders for certified Lone Star seed this Saturday January 16 in the County Agent's office. He notes 650 to 700 bushels distributed so far, with under 15 000 bushels remaining from 75 000 bought for Texas farmers. Seed available to all farmers on the same terms, not just Farm Bureau members.

Lions Club Provides Free Terracing Level for Farmers Use

Harris to Join Chapman Ranch Co in Texas Land Development
A. S. Harris will leave in February for Chapman Ranch Texas to join the Chapman interests in their land development project. Chap man Ranch is a new post office fifteen miles south of Corpus Christi, with holdings of 40 000 acres of black soil being developed into cotton farms. Harris plans to move his family later, but they will stay here through the current school term. We also note an extra stock of linoleum rugs 9x12 and special prices from Durham Bros.

Funeral of Maj Scar A Russell Held in Comanche
The body of Maj Oxsear Russell who died in California arrived in Comanche Sunday at 4 30 am and was taken to his parents home to await interment at Oakwood cemetery. Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist church at 2 pm by Rev Forrest Maddox with many friends in attendance.

Stolen Stamps Ties Ranger Robbery Case to Sipe Springs
Two men, Bill Thompkins and Claud Rouse, were arrested in Ranger after postal stamps and goods from Sipe Springs robberies were traced to a hotel. Rouse confessed in writing and Thompkins admitted to robbery and safe blowing at the F L Little store January 4. Federal officers and local sheriffs coordinated the arrests. a third suspect remains at large.

1949 Cars Registered In County Tax Office Figures
At the close of business yesterday 1 949 cars and 95 trucks had been registered leaving about 1 200 cars still unregistered in the county. After January 30 a 25 percent penalty will be added to the registration cost for cars used on highways since January 1.
Poll Taxes Paid Since Last Week's Report
The Chief reports progress on poll taxes paid with a goal to reach at least 4,000 in the next issue. A final windup is planned for the following week, allowing one more week for totals.
Preston Tate Opens Dry Goods and Clothing Store
Preston Tate has leased the former Fair Store building on the square to open an up-to-date dry goods and clothing shop. He will travel to markets to select stock and aims to open by February 1, with remodeling already underway. Tate, known in town business circles with his father in Comonache, promotes linoleum rugs at Durham Bros and special prices at Norrid & Prater Produce for produce and feed.
