A fragment describes a public meeting held Friday afternoon about meningitis measures. Officials advised quarantine only if cases arise, urged cleanliness, avoiding public gatherings, and planning a mass cleanup and public health campaign led by Mhhton.
Doctors from Dallas heard experts on meningitis as cases spread in Texas. Brown County reports a death. others including Waco Dallas Fort Worth and Houston see new cases. Comanche mayor urges clean-up. schools close in many towns. theatres shut in several cities. one case linked to a former state official’s son.
Through Mr. E U Wiesendanger a full 1911 weather year report is provided. The year was very dry with 29 9 16 inches of rain in the soil enough for farming though cotton as money crop weakened due to low prices. It notes rainfall and monthly low and high temperatures and claims May had no rainfall for the first time in national history.
The People's Rule League urges Democrats to circulate petitions to request a presidential primary in Texas. Volunteers are asked to send name and address to A. M. Kennedy, secretary, Mart, Texas, to demonstrate voter support and aid the state committee in calling a primary in line with local precedent.
The deceased left a wife and two single daughters and a single son residing with their parents. The remains were taken to Leon Junction Thursday morning for interment in the afternoon. Local friends accompanied the family. Services at the Presbyterian Church on Sabbath: Sabbath school at 9:45 a.m., congregational services at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Allison Mayfield Texas railroad commissioner and Cotton Belt officials plus local businessmen toured the line. A Comanche stop featured a cordial reception by citizens. The high school adjourned for the day as an intense cold snap disrupted the heating system. Cold this week reached six degrees, the coldest spell in years, catching engineers by surprise and delaying local installations.
Hugh Roe of Comanche and Miss Benton Kirby near town were united in marriage last week at the Baptist Parsonage. Rev. Geo W Shaefor spoke the words that joined them. Hugh is son of Jim Roe and Benton daughter of J M Kirby. They have many friends who wish them happiness.
J. R. Palmer, new U. S. Government Agent replacing W. J. Lane, arrived Wednesday to begin duties. He plans to organize boys corn clubs and other 4H groups, focus on deep plowing to conserve moisture, and review year plans with district agent Mr. Ganzer. Lane left the post due to home business matters.
A small fire occurred just before two o'clock Thursday morning. The alarm was raised for a vacant residence owned by A. B. Haworth and the property was unoccupied at the time. The incident caused minor damage and no injuries were reported.
