Comanche High Gets New Backboards From Indian Donors

Modern backboards installed at Comanche High School Gym will be used in tomorrow night’s home basketball doubleheader against Stevensville Honey Bees. The project, funded by a group of Indians who contributed over 700, marks a community effort as fans filled the stands during Tuesday’s 8 AA games, including Dallas and Itasca matchups.

W R Bill Elliott of Comanche authorized The Chief to announce his candidacy for a second term as Commissioner Precinct No 1. His home is 415 W Duncan. He cites a record of service and pledges continued good work while contacting voters ahead of the May 2 Democratic primary.

County Oil Well Producing Near Marble Falls

A reopening of an oil test in Camanche County by W C Pettit and partners yielded one producer with about 33 1/2 barrels per day and 490 gravity oil at 2 760 feet. The Marble Falls field well, 11 miles southwest, originated as A C Pettit in Louisa Pamplin survey, completed after May 1958 abandonment. Pettit plans immediate testing and shallow tests in the Emergy pool following a recent discovery and leasing activity.

Sixth Annual Comanche County Junior Livestock Show Auction

Angus Dickson Jr county agent plans the sixth annual auction as part of the two day Comanche County Junior Livestock Show on January 17 and 26. About 150 animals including steer lamb and swine will be auctioned January 17 at McDougal's Auction Barn with Lonnie Donnie McDougal as linemaster. Judges from Howard Payne College will assess entries. 4 H and FFA teams from multiple towns are expected. plaques and ribbons will be awarded to top teams.

Barbara Barrett Appointed Comanche County Agent for 2th Annual Livestock Show

Barbara Barrett, new Comanche County Home Demonstration Agent from Denton Texas Woman's University, heads the 21st annual Comanche Junior Livestock Show. The event runs January 17–18 at Comanche Market show barns with judging starts at 9 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. check-ins. Parades of Champions cap each day at 3 p.m. with auctions at 7 p.m. on January 17 and breed judging on January 18 followed by final releases.

Comanche County Young Farmers Win State Honors

Comanche Countians win top state prizes at the State Young Farmer’s Convention in Austin January 3-4 amid 160 chapters. The local chapter received the Outstanding Chapter trophy and a $325 cash award, with Bill Lane and Archie Boyd among recognitions.

Army slide program on Operation Big Lift to shown at Lions Club

A Fort Hood produced slide program from the Operation Big Lift airlift of the 49th Armored Division to Germany will be shown at the Lions Club meeting Tuesday night January 14 at 6 30. Army personnel will attend and narrate. Donald Lacy of Comanche visited his nephew Claude Dudley in a Dallas hospital Wednesday afternoon and filed a report.

Daughters Born to McDougal Family in Brownwood Hospital

Mrs Donnie McDougal of Comanche announces the birth of a daughter Dana Ann on December 30 in Brownwood Hospital. The baby weighs seven pounds two ounces. The couple's other children are Donna Sue eight and Rodney seven. Maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ernest McDougal and paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Hogan Scott, all of Comanche.

John Hall Named Justice of Peace in Comanche Precinct

John H. Hall, 65, former Comanche mayor, was appointed Tuesday by the Comanche County Commission to serve as Justice of Peace Precinct No. 1. The vacancy followed the January 1 death of Otto A. Brazier after 12 years in the post. Hall also became City Judge, a position Brazier held. He was chosen from 14 applicants and will serve the unexpired term through December 31, 1966. Hall, a Sidney native, plans to seek the Justice of Peace nomination in the May 2 Democratic primary. He and wife own the Comanche Courts on East Central Avenue.
