Receipts at the Comanche Post Office rose fifty nine percent in the last 15 days of December from a year ago, totaling 1167 versus 735. For full year 1940 receipts reached 17020 up from 15315 in 1939, a gain over 10 percent, with December 1940 at 1900 versus 1504 in December 1939.

Rev. R. B. Easley died December 26 at his son P. J. Easley's home in Vandyke, aged 90 after a nine month illness. Funeral services were held at Gartman View tabernacle with Bro. W. K. Warkington presiding. Burial in Zion Hill Cemetery. Early Texas settler since 1871, he lived on the old homestead 70 years, married Mary Ann McGure in 1870. she died 1926. Eleven children were born, nine survive.

A. G. Morse, a Dallas Post Office clerk, underwent knee surgery Friday at Baylor Hospital Dallas. The condition had troubled him for months and recently worsened. Eighteen Comanche County Men Mobilized for January Draft Call
Comanche County to send eighteen men on January 22 under the Selective Service Act. Thirteen volunteers and five draftees will report to the Army Recruiting Office in Dallas. Two Escape From Jail In Comanche County Break
Two 20 year old men escaped the Comanche County jail early Monday morning after breaking a heavy cell door padlock with an iron bar and digging from the wall. Clifford Brook and Oswald Pell fled about 2:00 am using blankets to descend from the second story. The pair are described by Sheriff Wid Spivey as 20 year olds with given physical features and histories. they were believed to have fled in a stolen 1937 Ford sedan with Texas license N29-063 from the Ollie Trippe Apartments parking area.
