S P Smith undergoes an appendectomy in Dallas while local stores tout bold spring fashions. Designers feature pastel greens, prints, crepes, silks, linens, and new coatings as retailers report rapid arrivals and a wave of ready to wear garments. Smith's condition improves as his wife joins him, and merchants from Higginbotham's to Tate Dry Goods emphasize vivid color and new textures amid steady shopping.
L. R. Brightman a Comanche resident for 38 years died at his home at noon on Wednesday after a period of illness. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church with Dr. Forrest Maddox and Rev. J. M. Wynne officiating, interment at Oakwood. Born in Refugio County 67 years ago he lived in Colorado and Old Mexico in earlier years and rode the Pony Express between Corpus Christi and St. Mary. Survived by his wife Annie Wiley Brightman seven children two brothers two sisters and his mother Mrs Harriet Brightman of Fort Worth. He was described as fearless honest generous and a devout Christian. Out-of-town mourners included Gillespie Coleman and Wehmeyer, among others. Pure bred English White Leghorns advertised by Farmers' Mill and Produce Co.
Barry Bros have invested about 1800 dollars in new equipment for Comanche Steam Laundry. Two large washers are in use with more machinery planned to ensure top quality, affordable family washing, and segregated washing for each customer. Joe Farmer, a veteran operator, explains the extractor’s speed and care to prevent wear, while A C Wells, recently relocated from Sidney, joins as driver to support the upgrade and service standards.
The Crest Store opens today in Comanche with open house from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM, then regular hours start Saturday at 9. Mr. Farmer and family moved from De Leon, bringing a careful new laundry emphasis. Visitors will enjoy music by the Comanche High School Orchestra, chocolate for ladies, and balloons for children as the community tours the new establishment in the Lawrence building on the square.

The Powers well eight and a half miles from Comanche east of Beattie was drilling at 1,485 feet Wednesday night with steady progress. A 10 1/2 inch casing was set at 1,300 feet. Three water flows at various depths, the first at 112 feet, were all cut off. A small running flow persisted but did not hinder work. drilling continues in sandy lime formation.
Comanche directors announce Sunday afternoon band concerts across nearby communities with a contest for attendance. The urban crowd at outdoor events has outpaced indoor shows, so the top three communities by turnout will win the first three outdoor concert slots. The Comanche high school venue hosts the kickoff.
County Judge R A Luker and E B Anthony of the Comanche Chamber joined a State Highway Commission meeting in Austin at 10 am Wednesday to officially designate the Pecan Belt Highway from Comanche via Goldthwaite San Saba Llano and Fredericksburg to Orville as an extension of Highway 22 from De Leon to Comanche. The highway must be ready for state takeover and maintenance by July first, with county representatives agreeing to the condition.
Laura A. Pinson born May 8 1867 in Comanche county Texas daughter of A J Hanson. Survived by four sisters and three brothers and by fourteen children nine sons and five daughters with two sons deceased. Member of First Christian Church about 35 years married to John Pinson in January 1888. Died at Scott and White Sanitarium Temple Texas.
Comanche County Farm Bureau will meet at the courthouse Saturday at 2 p m to review the committee report on adopting or rejecting the production credit plan from the Texas Farm Bureau. The panel met with local bankers and resolved not to adopt the plan, citing friendly banks and readiness to aid crop production within sound banking limits. A preparatory meeting with County Agent Parton to outline a farming program will be held at 1 p m tomorrow.
