Early Comanche Banking and Hidden Mines Unearthed
In Comanche’s early days founder of The Chief recalls banks from 1875 to 1890s, a famous bank robbery, and later discoveries of ancient mining excavations west of town. The piece notes first banks by Martin Stephens, Livingston, Hill Moore, Chilton, and the merger into First State Guaranty Bank. It cites Dr. Robert Hill’s investigations linking ancient diggings to later adventurer activity.
