District Interscholastic Meet Planned for Comanche and German

District 10A of the Interscholastic League schedules a district meet for seven Class A schools. Comanche will host play grounds, tennis, and track events on April 5 and 6 with finals at night in Gorman field. events include play ground ball, volleyball, and speech contests involving hundreds of students, teachers, and parents.

Dr. LK Ory Reopens Comanche Medical Office

Major L K Ory will receive an honorable discharge February 24 and reopen his general medicine practice upstairs over the Comanche National Bank. Workmen are preparing the office. he served over two years in Australia with the Army Medical Corps. Ory earned his M D from the University of Texas and practiced in Comanche for ten years before enlistment. Mrs. Ottis Beene returns home from Baylor Hospital after a major operation and is reported improving.

Comanche All-Stars Win Moran Tournament Title

The Comanche All-Star basketball quintet defeated Mineral Wells 37 to 20 in Moran High School gym to capture the Moran All-Star tournament. They beat Denton 43 to 23 in the opening round, had a second round bye, and edged Leaders 32 to 27 in the semifinal. Weaver Dies in Goldthwaite After Years in County Schools

W. P. Weaver longtime schoolteacher in Comanche County and resident of the Sidney section died at Goldthwaite. His death ends a lengthy career in local education.

Arrests In Comanche Wright's Jewelry Burglary

Two men were arrested and a warrant issued for a third in the Wright's Jewelry burglary at Comanche two weeks ago. Andrew Sims was nabbed in Wichita Falls and ex-convict. Jack Wilson, 17, a former Comanche County youth, was held in Abilene and brought to Comanche. Only four or five of about 150 stolen rings recovered. watches untouched. Loss estimated 1500 to 2000 with no insurance.

Death in Germany Confirmed for Captain Darden McCollum

War Department notice on February 14 confirms Captain Darden McCollum was killed in action March 14 after being reported missing. He served with the 19th Tactical Command flying a P-47 Thunderbolt in Verdun and Bastogne campaigns, accumulating over 50 missions. He is survived by wife Marge, his parents, a sister and brother, all of McCamey.

City and School Tax Collections Near Record in Comanche

More than 96 percent of 1945 city taxes were paid, totaling $23,100.41 of $24,082.99 assessed, with $982 delinquent. School taxes show about 95 percent paid, $17,474.44 of $18,323.99 assessed, leaving $949 delinquent. Delinquent sums include $3,163.03 city and $1,976.03 school. Mayor secretary H. R. Jones notes rising city valuation to $1,660,889, aided by new property despite no recent equalization. Attorney C. C. Hampton resigns as delinquent tax collector.
