Local School Board Meets in Tax Office Conference Room

The board met in the Tax Office Conference Room on February 10 1975 at 7 00 p m with all members and Superintendent H R Jefferies present. Actions included approving prior minutes paying maintenance and transportation bills extending principal contracts and athletic director contracts and electing staff for the 1974 75 year. A plan for voting precincts was discussed with a committee appointed. A February 14 called session addressed Equalization Board matters with no action taken.

Peanut Meetings Schedules Four Local Sessions

The Comanche County Crops Committee and Texas A and M Extension Service announce four one night peanut meetings for farmers. Each runs 7 30 to 9 30 pm at Comanche Farm Bureau Building De Leon Soil Conservation District Building Gustine School and Sidney School from February 24 to 27. Specialists Dr John Chapin Dr Thomas A Lee and Dr Cliff Hoelscher cover fertility herbicides diseases nematodes and insects.

Maidens Reach Regional After 75 51 Win Over Bridgeport

CHS Maidens beat Bridgeport 75 to 51 in Granbury Bi-District clash. Linda Sue Andrews led with 29 points, Sissy Andrews 18, Linda Mazurek 16, Jennifer McDougal 12. Team advances to Denton regional, first game Friday at 7:00 or 8:30 with finals set at 3:30 if they win.

Sue Rainey announces her candidacy for the Comanche School Board Trust ee. She is the wife of James T. Rainey and mother of two. The Raineys live on Route 3 in Comanche. She is a 1963 Comanche and 1967 nursing school graduate and currently Director of Nurses at a Brownwood nursing home.

Gustine 4-H Share-the-Fun Festival Set for Feb 22

The Annual 4-H Share-the-Fun Festival will be held Saturday February 22 1975 at 7 00 p.m. In the Gustine High School Auditorium with six county 4-H clubs competing for the traveling trophy and ribbons presented by the Comanche County 4-H Adult Leaders Association. The event aims to build cooperation self confidence and showmanship through skits stunts and acts and is free to attend.

Noon Lions Blood Pressure Clinic Planned

The Noon Lions Club schedules a community blood pressure check in cooperation with the State Department of Health Region 4. The event is tentatively set for Wednesday March 19 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Texas Power and Light Hospitaling Room with public health nurse Mrs. Jeanene Arthur.

Comanche Election Attracts Candidates for Mayor

City Secretary John Beaty reports two candidates for mayor as of February 18. John Huett and Bill Clemons, both City Council members seeking reelection. Also seeking reelection are Eugene Perkins and Wallace Gibson, joined by John Happy Hathcock owner of Hathcock's Appliance and Furniture Store. Election day is Saturday April 5.

Comanche ISD Board Race Grows With Four Candidates

Secretary Billy Ray Evans of the Comanche Independent School District says four candidates have announced for two seats in the April 5 election. Incumbents Bill Blue and Burton Cunningham seek reelection, William T. Calhoun DDS joined the race two weeks ago, and Sue Collins Rainey added this week.

Nabors Announces Emergency Grants for County Schools

State Representative Lynn Nabors reports emergency appropriations bill H. R. 102 awards Comanche County districts funds from the Foundation School Program for 1974-1978. Amounts include Comanche 35241, De Leon 23863, Gustine 5024, Sidney 4201, based on attendance and safety factors. These grants may be used for any Foundation Program purposes to ease district shortages.
