Plans for Comanche Junior Livestock Show March 12

Further plans were finalized at the Comanche County Livestock Association meeting in the Chamber of Commerce room February 12 for the 1943 show to benefit FFA and 4 H youth. A new class adds prizes for top four senior hogs, with judges to be secured. Officials named to organize, finance, and address grass-fire risk and to encourage breeders to exhibit.

Local Schools Close Two Days For Sign Up In Comanche

Registration for point rationing of processed foods opens next week in Comanche County. The first session is at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Band Hall and runs through Saturday, with schools closed Thursday and Friday to aid the process per Superintendent W. Z. Compton.

Notable 73rd Birthday Dinner for Uncle Jim Cunningham

Uncle Jim Cunningham was honored on his 73rd birthday with a dinner attended by R. T. Cunningham 79 Dave Cunningham 81 Jack Wright 86 Shack Howell 80 and other relatives. He is described as one of Captain James and Aunt Susan Cunningham’s original 13 children. J. J. Allison was buried at Mercer Gap Friday. Prof. J. B. Layne will lead the Normal at John Tarleton next summer. C. M. Moore announced for re election as City Secretary. Mr and Mrs J. B. Allcorn will move from Waco to Eastland with Mr Allcorn taking charge of Meadows Wholesale Grocery. Zenna Compton captain of John Tarleton football and 13 others including William Surry and Jim Mobly earned football letters last week. Miss Doris Boswell and Aaron Massingill wed at the Lucius Fikins home with Rev Forrest Maddox officiating. Janette Reese sang and Florine Elkins played the wedding march. Mayor Eanes writes on a Junior College for Comanche urging local readers to support it. Comanche’s strong public school system could back a college. George Montgomery bought the Welch place on the Sidney road. Dudley Brothers Buy 1685 Acre Gib Callaway Ranch

The Dudley Brothers Gail Tom and Fites purchase the Gib Callaway ranch totaling 1685 acres in the Brysonville White Point area for 33000 dollars. They are longtime tire merchants and garage operators turned ranchers with holdings from John Bryson Ranch purchases and now stock their cattle with blooded Herefords.

Dudley Passes Away At Democrat Ranch Leader Dies at 94 in Texas

James Hudson Dudley a Confederate veteran and prominent Democrat rancher died at his Democrat ranch. Born Cobb County Georgia March 1848 he joined the Confederate Army in 1862 later ranching across Texas. Funeral held at his ranch with Rev E G Gregory Jr officiating. He is survived by two daughters 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Dawson Waring Begins Naval Aviation Cadet Training

Dawson Waring son of Mr and Mrs John D Waring Jr of Comanche enters naval aviation training. He studies preliminary flight at Northwestern University Evanston Illinois after graduating Hampton Sydney College Virginia and being called to active duty this week as a naval flying cadet.

Eighteen and Nineteen Year Olds Pass Induction Examinations

Comanche youths aged 18 and 19 passed Army and Navy physicals at Abilene Induction Station on February 15. Inductees to the Army Enlisted Reserve Corps will report February 22 to Camp Wolters, while Navy results list several recruits for active duty. Names of those passing are shown. a separate group entered the Army without furlough that week, and a Navy contingent also reported for assignment.

Durham Promoted To First Lieutenant

Ted Durham son of Mr and Mrs N N Durham of Comanche has been promoted from second lieutenant to first lieutenant while serving in England as a medical supply officer. He has been overseas about four months and entered the service a year ago after finishing officer candidate school. He is a 1937 Comanche High School graduate and a 1942 mid term UT Austin graduate.

Goodson Promoted To Rank of Captain In Army

Herbert Goodson son of Mrs H N Goodson of Comanche has been promoted from first lieutenant to captain in the infantry. He trained at Camp Wolters Mineral Wells since graduating from Texas A M in June 1941. He left for special training at Fort Benning Georgia with his wife and son David remaining in Georgia.

Buckey Awarded Air Medal in London

United States Army in London announced eight Texas officers received Air Medals. Captain George R. Buckey of Comanche earned his for action as a Flying Fortress pilot in December. Buckey, recently promoted from first lieutenant to captain, is married to the former Miss Maxine George. They reside with her parents, Mr and Mrs T C George, in Comanche, and have a two month old son, George Richard.
