Local merchants promote Valentine Day gifts including cards lingerie and jewelry with specials on costume jewelry Westinghouse appliances and gift ideas from Cooperat Cupid and Hitt’s station. Ads highlight prices discounts and store openings as shoppers plan ahead for Thursday’s holiday.
County rancher C Toon announces Farmers Home Administration accepts a roughage ration plan for cattle. Applications may be filed February 15 to provide feed through March. Salley Edwards plans a seven day business trip next week.
Friedrichs Tot Center owned by Fred W Schrader will open on the south side of the square in the former NFLA building just east of Comanche National Bank. Work includes shelves painting and improvements with a tentative opening date set for Saturday February 16. Schrader a former Priddy resident and Link Aviation field engineer plans to serve children from infancy to age six and invites the public to await next week's Chief notice.
The Comanche Garden Club sponsors a rummage sale on Saturday February 9 in the Mc Donal Building on the east side of the square. Donations are welcome contact Mrs. John Reese for pickup of clothing items.
Comanche County Tax Assessor-Collector reports 1,883 poll tax receipts issued by January 31, near the expected off-year total. The figure is 16 higher than 1955 and 849 below 1956 on-year totals, with about 1,100 fewer voters anticipated in the county-wide 1957 race. An April 2 U S Senatorial election is the only county-wide contest listed. Police boxes will announce poll tax payments.
The Comanche Indians beat Hamilton 63-41 to run their 7th straight 2A-8 win and 19th of 21 this season. Couch led with 16 points, Fisher 16, Oden and Palmer 10 each as Comanche tops Hamilton in 8-AA play. The district tournament opens Feb 14 with Comanche vs De Leon in opening round.
Arlington State coach Cheena Gilstrap will headline the Comanche High School Football Banquet at the local gym Tuesday night February 19. He brings former Comanche stars Calvin Lee and Dalton Hicks as guests. event aims for 400 attendees with tickets sold by the Chamber of Commerce High School and others.
R. J. Roeder Jr. of Yorktown was elected president of the Texas Hereford Association at Fort Worth January 28 during the Fort Worth Stock Show banquet. Regional vice presidents named include Tomie Potts Memphis Panhandle Gail Dudley Comanches Central Texas Sue Hill Fairfield East Texas Cherlie Creighton Big Spring West Texas. Honorary memberships were awarded to Walter Boothe Sweetwater Charles Lewis Sweetwater and John McInnis Brownwood. Evangelist Gale Miller will conduct two weeks of daily services at the Veterans Building in Comanche starting Monday evening. Mrs Miller will provide organ accordion and possibly vibra harp music. The Miller family travels from Hardesty Oklahoma and has experience with revival campaigns in Brownwood and Comanche. They are 26 years old with a 4 year old son and have toured with Billy Walker Jr. as organist.
March 1 1957 is the deadline for farmers to sign agreements under the 1956 Cotton Acreage Reserve program. William F. Bryant, chairman of the Comanche County ASC, said signups began February 5 on a first come first served basis with funds limited by county allotments.
Proceeds from advance tickets for February 13 and 14 at the Majestic Theatre go to the Comanche Heart Fund. Jack Arthur, theatre owner, hosts Walt Disney's Secrets of Life, a family picture. Tickets available through Mrs J B Ruth and Camp Fire Girls to support the heart drive.

W John Beaty of Comanche was named president of the Agronomy Society at Texas A and M College. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Ory Beaty of Comanche. The announcement comes from College Station Texas.
The Mother's March for polio headed by the ESA Sorority and volunteers raised $420.00, with other collections from business firms and individuals in Comanche County expected to bring the total to about $1400. County Polio Chairman C. J. Thompson says drives in parts of the county are being completed.
