Neighbors and relatives gathered at Sidney home to honor RR Smith on his 81st birthday. Walter Smith and the Smith family received gifts as well as nephews Galena Dowell and Holmes Hurst and Sam Paderhill of Rotan in attendance.
Comanche High School schedules its sixth annual Career Conference for Friday February 7 as part of the guidance program. Twenty four fields will be explored with local and out of town professionals offering insights on vocations, required training, and career rewards. Dr. Paul B. Faulkner of Abilene Christian College will address students on the theme American Youth Privileges and Responsibilities.
Comanche County Democrats list four county races and a congressional seat for the May 2 primary with four in-person filings by Feb. 3 and a contested late application for District 64 State Representative. Two Democratic congressional candidates filed, Omar Burleson and Max Carriker, while Republicans filed Morgan and Bridges.
Higginbotham Bros. & Co. general merchants with eight decades in Central West Texas held its annual stockholders meeting in Comanche with 37 stockholders present. Tom Beene announced record sales across stores and expressed optimism for 1964. All officers were re elected and a luncheon followed at the Comanche Garden Club Center.
Comanche guards limited Cisco to 15 points in the first half as the Maidens defeated Cisco 49 38 to stay within one game of the district title. Dorothea Byrd led with 30 points, Nan Henson added 8, and Doris Evans sparked the defense. Meanwhile Hugh Fletcher poured in 53 for the Indians as they beat Cisco 70 45 to gain the district lead with key rematch looming. The girls face Stephenville next, while the boys seek to maintain momentum before Granbury and Dublin showdowns.
The Comanche Jaycees host their annual Aunt Jemima Pancake Supper at the Veteran's Building Friday February 7 from 5 30 to 8 30 pm. The CHS High School Combo and Evritt Music Co organists provide entertainment. Proceeds fund local civic projects.
The Comanche County Peanut Short Course at De Leon High School Auditorium runs Feb 17 18 and 20. Experts include Wendell Horne H W Newton H P ONeal B G Freeman T D Aaron and others covering diseases insects harvesting fertility weed control irrigation and marketing with Q and A sessions. A final note observes scientists have created a temperature far hotter than the sun's surface.
E. W. Sullivan known as Kenney retires from government service after 47 years, ending Friday January 31. He served 3 years 9 months before joining the local post office in 1920 and is a Comanche High School 1913 graduate who served in the Marine Corps in World War I. He and his wife live at 601 W. Paine with two children, Bobbie Swaim of Abilene and Pat, a teacher in Lemega.
Mims Memorial Hospital in Comanche is under construction for a new clinical laboratory and additional doctor office space. Dr. C B Wright, off sick leave, will use the new office. Eight more private beds are planned with construction to start after State Hospital Board approval.
