Lee, Comanche High School football coach and athletic director, resigns to become first assistant under Watty Meyers at Texas High School in Texarkana. James Moffatt, former Texarkana Bear and Texas Longhorn quarterback, named new Comanche head coach and extend-led two-year contract to also coach B team basketball and assist with track.
An old time community social is planned for Saturday night at the Proctor School House. Each family should bring a dessert such as pie cake or cookies. There will be games singing and other entertainment.
Granbury Pirates hold off Comanche Indians 59-56 to improve to 4-1 in district play while Comanche drops to 3-2. Cogsdill nets 24 and Carswell 19 for Granbury. Swearengin 18 for Comanche. Indian Maidens beat Granbury 54-49 as Luann Henson scores 36 in the girls game.
Dan Wells age about 72 of 704 East Oak Comanche died after suffering two strokes at his home Wednesday and dying Thursday morning February 4 at 5 a.m. Funeral services are planned for Friday February 5 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Tilden McFerrin officiating and Oakwood Cemetery burial. Wells was a Watkins dealer and a fruit and vegetable grower. Fort Worth visitors included Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Williams and Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Durham.
The Senior Class and Lib Club of Comanche High sponsor a talent show at the Manche High School Auditorium for children two years or older. The event features individual and paired performances with music including clarinet and saxophone. Proceeds fund the Teen-Age Library Convention and the Senior Trip. Supervisors are Mrs Nobia Dunn and Marguerite Ross.
Horace Bartlett 37, son of Mr and Mrs Earl Bartlett, named Sweetwater Man of the Year. co owner of Bullock Electric Company, past president of the Kiwanis and Young Businessmen clubs, member of Retail Businessman's and Southwest Electrical associations, and active church worker at First Baptist. married to Mary Louise Manning of Comanche.
Bill Lane, 31, Newburg dairyman, was named Comanche County Outstanding Young Farmer for 1959 during a banquet at Me's Cafeteria. Attended by 112 people, with G. M. Watkins delivering the keynote, Lane was nominated by the Newburg Community Club and praised for building a top certified brucellosis free dairy herd. He operates a 250 acre dairy farm with his wife Annie Adcock, and Jaycee partner Roy Brannan Jr. Other nominees included Lawrence Farley, J C Johnson, Ted Littlejohn, Ted Nowlin, Cap Nowlin and Norman Moore.
Comanche High School will host its third annual Career Conference on Friday February 5 in the school building. The event aims to guide juniors and seniors into vocational opportunities, help students identify interests and assess abilities with local and out of town speakers. The Guidance Committee includes Supt S H Fletcher and Principal J E Lightfoot among others.
The Harmony Goodwill Club will hold a rummage sale on Saturday February 13 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Comanche. Mrs. D B Aldridge, club president, announced the event.

Mr and Mrs Jerry Pyburn of 3901 Bright Street Fort Worth announce the birth of a daughter Lodera Ann Friday morning January 291 in Fort Worth The baby is the granddaughter of Charles Marshall and Jack Pyburn and the great granddaughter of Joe Marshall.
The Woodmen of the World Camp 60 in Comanche presented the Comanche Volunteer Fire Department with fourteen slickers at a family night supper. Fire Chief Curtis McKinzie received them from C. L. Sinclair with Jack Wheat assisting. Pat Cagle and J H Tunpin were honored for other contributions. Over 100 attendees from the fire department Woodmen group and guests were present at the Fire Station auditorium.
A display showcases a full line of office writer ribbons and typing paper at the chief’s office. The collection covers multiple widths and colors. Officials note the set supports document work and archival tasks.
Dr Baxter Greer begins his fifth year as minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Comanche. The Central Texas Presbytery unanimously approved the call in Marlin Texas. The 1959 church report noted self sufficiency with total contributions of 5479.75 and cash assets of 2071.65. The church property and manse are valued at about 50000 with all departments active and promising a strong year.
The Comanche Girl All-Stars edged Pottsville 46 to 44 Saturday night. Jo Doan Welch scored 23 points and Jean Dewitt Spruill added 17, with Thelma Humphrey contributing six as local guards contained the taller Pottsville lineup.
February marks Heart Month as Mrs. E Arthur, president, urges local participation in the 1960 Heart Fund Campaign. Heart Sunday is February 28 with door to door collections in Comanche and De Leon to fight heart disease and its toll.
