Comanche merchants, with several buyers in market and others to depart soon, anticipate a vigorous spring season. They plan substantial purchases, aiming to maximize value and maintain quality to attract customers, amid a diversified county economy and improving bank conditions.
Co. C. French well known authority on hogs and hog raising will speak in Comanche next Saturday February the 5th in connection with the Cotton Belt Soil Train. He is recognized as a leading hog expert and has visited Comanche to support the livestock industry.
Oak H. Rhodes, Baltimore Manufacturer's Record manager, visited Comanche last Thursday to explore south industry prospects. A dinner in his honor at Ridgeway hotel included J. R. Eanes and other local business figures as well as S. L. Moore of Stephenville who is promoting Tri Cities Gas Company involvement to attract regional industry.
Byron Brittian of Talia Oklahoma was arrested in Comanche Saturday night after dark by City Marshal Andrew Pate. Brittian, recently released by Brownwood authorities, is alleged to have stolen a Buick Sedan from Robert F Walker in Brownwood and was later returned with the car by Brownwood officers. Also noted is an ad for Blue Ribbon Egg Mash and poultry feeds priced at $2.85 at Slider and Sacvy's.

Dose Hanes of southeast Comanche reports being assaulted near his home Saturday night about 7 30. He says two men were involved and one struck a match before another threw a burning substance into his face while a blow to the head felled him. Treated by a doctor, his burns are serious but not permanent, and he remains at home recovering.
Tax collectors report the heaviest year for payments with $113,479.20 in four last days excluding poll and auto taxes. City receipts peak at $17,000 on the final day for city and school taxes. Poll tax payments fall from 671 to about 577 in the city and over 200 fewer in the county. Delinquency higher in the county, while city and school district delinquency appears lower than last year.
J. F. Palmer formerly with Mackey Motor Company has accepted a position as bookkeeper with the Alamance Cream Factory in Brownwood and will assume duties immediately. He will not move his family yet but plans relocation at the end of the current term.
At a recent Comanche Chamber of Commerce banquet the musical program was provided by Rita and Nita Donaho, Mrs. H. F. Moore, and Nathalie Jessup. The Donaho twins are popular high school students, Moore has composed and directed Mollie Moore Godbold plays, and Jessup won first in the 1924 Baylor College State Piano contest.
PD C. Bailey imported from Byrd Brothers Poultry Farm in Maryville Pennsylvania a blooded Tom turkey for 100 dollars and two hens at 25 dollars each. He plans to raise a top quality flock north of Comanche and improve the local turkey crop.
Miss Verna Lee Burt fourteen resident two miles from Lamkin sustained painful injuries when a horse she rode slipped and fell into mud. She was thrown unconscious as the animal fell on her left foot tearing ligaments when it was struck down. News note from Lamkin dated January twenty eight.
Mr and Mrs J P Graham announce their son Phillips working on a degree at the University of Chicago has been appointed an assistant in Evelish at the school. His father expects to receive the PhD in June, a proud milestone for the family amid the unsolicited honor. R A Luker of the Comanche Chamber of Commerce says 1926 proves sweet potatoes are the surest crop for sandy land farmers. N H Durham advocates increasing 1927 acreage, using certified treated seed, and Lions Club planting plans. Potatoes offer strong market demand and higher net per acre than other crops, with truckers returning in 1927. Cotton prices look weak. peanuts may dip, but potato demand remains solid.
The annual county basketball tournament to decide the district rep will be held at Comanche on February 4 and 5 starting 10 a m with preliminaries and a Saturday final. About ten teams including Sidney De Leon Comanche Bettaie Mt View and Energy are expected. W Z Compton directs county athletics.
