R F Holloway the city schools superintendent for eight years submitted his resignation to take effect at term end. Senator J G Kearby died at his daughter Nora Kearby Perry’s home in Wichita Falls on Saturday January 25. The Comanche Home Oil Company was organized with J M Hickey as president and capitalized at 125000 dollars. Work continues on the new fireproof county court house annex. Mrs Buren Carmichael died January 22 from burns and a Carnegie hero medal movement is planned for her child. J B Layne of Clifton was elected superintendent of the Comanche Schools.

Durham Bros To Run Berry Canning Plant
Walter Durham announces the Comanche berry canning plant will be operated this season by Durham Pecans and Peanut Plant. The plant was purchased last year but delayed by the late April freeze which nearly wiped out the Comanche County berry crop. Local farmers rely on berries as a stable money crop and Durham urges growers to prune and clean patches to ensure good yields now and in the future.

Clyde Horner Buys First 39 License Plates in Comanche Co

Soda Springs Farmer Destroys Rats At Zero Cost
J L Woolsey of Soda Springs used an old plan to kill fifty two rats in four nights without spending a cent. He filled a tub half full of water, spread hay over it and around the tub, then collected drowned rats each morning, totaling fifty two by the fourth day.

A federal emergency crop and feed loan office opened last week in the Retail Merchants Association office, upstairs over the Comanche National Bank Annex. Applications are taken by Miss Ruby Keen and Harry F Chestnut, with loans limited to farmers small cash needs for 1939 crops or livestock feed. Eligibility excludes those with other credit sources, rehabilitation clients, and those served by Farm Security Administration. Loans require first lien on crops or livestock, with tenants’ landlords waiving claims to favor the Farm Credit Administration governor until repayment. Checks are mailed from Dallas Regional Office.

Man and Wife Die Within Eight Days in Democrat Community
Death struck twice at the home of Mr and Mrs Harvey Mayes in Democrat. January 21 Mr Mayes died from flu pneumonia and January 29 Mrs Mayes died from the same illness. Both buried in Democrat cemetery. Four Mayes children are ill with the disease.

Four locals injured in auto crash near Blanket
Four Comanche residents were injured when a car struck a truck near Blanket then hit the Carter auto returning from Brownwood fights. The Carter car carried Mickey Carter, his son Gene, Pink McCrary, and Tom Carnes. The occupants of the other vehicle, a Black man and woman, were taken to Brownwood.

Lee Fields died at his home in Comanche at 6 o'clock Thursday morning. Interment was in Sardis Cemetery Thursday afternoon. "Uncle Pet" Heathington has been seriously ill since Saturday.

The Lower Colorado River Authority purchased Texas Power and Light Company properties in 16 Central Texas counties for 5 million dollars. Burglars broke into Bart Payne's Service Station Tuesday night and took about $15 in cash. Entry was gained by breaking a window three blocks from town on the Brownwood Highway. The scene was discovered Wednesday morning and Sheriff Wid Spivey with Deputy Perry St. Clair are investigating.
